Exclamation Advice - Project Managers / Internet Specialists

ADVICE PLEASE!!!

Hi All - I have only just begun my quest to find work in Dubai...

There seem to be some fantastically helpful threads in here, however I have a few starter questions relating to any of those with an internet project management / specialist background.

I have extensive experience working across a range of internet & multimedia based initiatives & have also worked / contracted for a range of financial / Consultancy institutions (Rand Merchant Bank, PwC & Acccenture) in online trading & internet product development implementations!

I would love to hear from people working in the UAE with similar backgrounds so that i can get an idea of job prospects in the UAE, Salary expectancies, cost of living etc... Look for work here or there? Which agenices to use etc...

As a backup I am a qualified Dive Instructor & have worked as a barmen all over the world on the side if I needed to get something when I first get there!

Anyway any thoughts, feedback or advice would be a huge huge help to getting me kickstarted in my upcoming exciting journey...

Thanks & Looking forward to hearing some responses!!!

Mike

Hello Mike.....

Just started a welcome thread for ya. hahaha. Welcome to the forum.

Am not an IT expert, so i cant help u out there, but as for cost of living and that sort of thing, u really need to experience Dubai first hand for a while. You need to determine what sort of lifestyle u r after. Its also important to think about where u want to live, what sort of car you want to drive and if u have any kids, what schools they will be enrolled in.

Factors such as those will help you put into perspective the sort of salary you need/expect.

Hunting for jobs overseas or in Dubai are both great methods, but being in Dubai whilst talking to job agencies makes a HUGE difference.

U seem to be a man of many talents. lol. I am sure u will find something.

The FAQ section on Internet Jobs might be of interest to u.

Feel free to PM me or ask me any other questions. Am more than happy to help out.

Enjoy the forum.

Thanks for the info...

I would much prefer to be there walking agency to agency face-to-face when looking for a job but at the same point I imagine this would be a rather expensive option would it not??? I'd much prefer to set something up before arriving if possible!

Otherwise - Do you find that many westerners can simply pick up hospitality style jobs over there or Dive Instructors type positions while they are looking???

As for lifestyle & Car - Mustang & the funkiest place in Dubai ideally

LOL
Cheers

well I would obviously suggest that u set up meetings before showing up. lol. That is one of the BEST ways to get your foot in the door.

Hospitality style jobs....... hmmmm........ not really sure how that works, but as long as you are qualified and are able to perform the job u r applying for, then I see no reason why you cannot apply for hospitality jobs.

Mustang and a funky place to live? lol

How about a 10 bed signature villa on one of the Palm Islands? It will set u back about 2 million pounds. lol

Hello Mikey,

I am also looking for a job in UAE IT/Cosultancy field.

Main rule is it's very very very difficult to find a job when you are away.

You have to move in to get more chances.

I am about to get there in 1 week, and already got some appointements for interviews.

My advice is to prepare you plan weeks (or months) before, focus on your field companies/persons, try to get in touch with them, then when you fill ready, go on.

Hi Samy B,

So you think it is best to scope out the prospects, call the agencies, call companies etc... and once you have appointments setup then go buy your ticket and get over?

My key worry in this instance is finding a cheap & nasty place to stay while I am not earning the $$$ Stay in touch, will be good to hear how it all goes for you on arrival

More Advice peoples???

Exclamation Re: Advice - Project Managers

Hi Again Everybody - I found this forum yesterday and so far seems to be by far the best place to come find out information about expat life in Dubai...

I confirmed that I should expect an accomodation, health etc... package with the organisation I work for and now I would like to find out more about my initial question... How this job market is over there, what I can expect, salaries, places to live, work conditions etc... generally with a focus on the internet...

Love to hear from more people today

Thanks
Mike
