Default Abu Dhabi

Hi All
I'm in the process of accepting a role to be based in Abu Dhabi and was wondering on what is a typical monthly accommodation allowance and monthly living allowance would look like. Any additional information would be helpful
Thanks

Are you asking how much you should be looking to spend or the proportion of your salary that is base versus allowances. If the question is the former there are too many variables to answer the question (are you coming as a single, couple, or family, what are your expectations - functional accommodation or expat luxury). For the latter, in my current role, base salary is approximately 60% of my total take home and allowances (housing, flights and telephone) are 40% and schooling is reimbursed separately, but I have had jobs here where the split was reversed. In the end, having a higher base salary benefits you when calculating end of service benefits and feels a little more secure (allowances can disappear more easily).

Thanks for that. The question is what is reasonable to receive as an employee in terms of a monthly accommodation allowance and monthly living allowance as opposed to actual spend.
I have previously been told of the split as you say 60% base and 40% allowances but in this case this is being done as a base with allowances on top so hence the question of what is typical.

Your allowances will usually be based on your role / level / grade depending on your employer. There isn’t a ‘typical’ housing allowance.

My companies housing allowances range from 60k to north of 500k depending on level.

Not all companies pay a living allowance, this is a way to keep the base lower and therefore end of service lower.
