Default For the 4x4 knowledgeable out there

For the experienced Dubai 4x4ers out there

Does anyone know what the best (performance vs price) mobile compressor suitable for inflating 4x4 tyres is and where I can get one ?

I remember buying one that over heated quickly last time and I want to get a decent one this time (12V) of course

And if you have any idea where to buy your preferred compressor, that would be a bonus

Are you going to use this on a regular basis?

You basically have two options- spend around 800-1000dh for a bushranger in Ace, or a decent ARB one -- or take your chance in the dragonmart casino and buy the largest one they sell for 250. I've seen the dragonmart ones last years and seen them fail on their second use.

I have a Bushranger Super Max (1000dh). It'll inflate my big tyres from 11PSI to 30PSI in 90s and will happily do two cars (never had a thermal shut down). No problem with pop outs either. The Max Air is also OK.

If you are not worried about pop-outs etc you can probably get away with a smaller one like the Black Max.

Most people seem to prefer the ARB one (has a better gauge and valve set up) but my Bushranger has never let me down.

Thanks MH,

I remember seeing the bushranger on offer in ace when I was looking for a braai. Will wonder down with the kids after our trip to gent just now.

Good luck. As with all these things, buy the biggest one you can justify. The F150's tyres ain't small.

Will I be seeing you in the dunes?

Oh, and a tip on using them.

Never switch them off until you need to. i.e. keep it running until you have finished doing all the tyres - if you switch off between tyres it is possible the thermal cut out will trigger when you go to switch it back on.

max air or super max.

I've had the same max air for 8 years and its still going strong.

Avoid the dragonmart ones its not worth ****ing a set of tires driving to a garage when it packs in just as you need it.

My chinese compressor has just failed after 7 months. And I haven't been using it for 3 if those due to injury/holiday.
We had a bushranger one which gave up at 13 months old.
ARB onboard compressor for me next - I have found that the cheap options are slow and don't stand up to heavy usage .

Thanks for the tips and feedback folks, much appreciated

I was down in Ace on SZR with my boys today but they had about 4 different models (2 of which were the same price) and my boys decided to go into run around melt down so we ended up with nothing and another trip sans kidikis will be required

Looks like 699 for bush ranger max and one other bush ranger then straight up to 1000 for the next bushranger. There was also a cheaper bush ranger.

Being anal about these things I didn't have chance to enter all the data into my spreadsheet to cogitate over. Bit worried about the failure rate of these to be honest as 4 big 4x4 tyres shouldn't cause that much stress to a half decent compressor. I am not going to Dragon Mart ever again even if the cheapest most bestest (my little ones fave saying) was available for 100 dirhams. I hate the place

There used to be an ARB shop in Mussafah so I may wheedle in next week whilst over that way just to check out whats on offer.

I suppose the best bet is a guy who bought all the goodies after a single trip out with AD4X4 then never went again. I see there is a snatch strap on dubizzle that has the hall marks of that. Trouble is I need 2 snatch straps, one for the F150 and one for the Expedition. You see I did listen to the instructors 5 years ago and know the strap needs to match the weight of the vehicle

MH, you will see the wifes F150 in the dunes my friend. But the XL Expy is on beach camping duties only. I am off to Bahrain tomorrow but on Weds its back to the dealers as it smelt like I fried the gearbox today travelling from IBN Battuta to Dubai Mall at 100 ks an hour. Not a happy bunny but as my last Expy was bullet proof I will just put this one down to Friday afternoon manufacture

Try Robbies in Bur Dubai. I seem to remember him having a pretty decent selection.

I have a little Bushranger one that fits in the centre of my spare (the spare is inside the Jeep). It has never let me down and has never cut out. It is pretty slow tho.

Next I want to do it properly and just fit an on board air system. Far superior.

Ramy 4x4 for your ARB compressor, Tock. Do come out with AD4x4. I'm with them most weeks.

The problem with the compressors is that they are breathing in hot air.

Ja for shuwa

AD4X4 were super friendly on the 3 beginner sessions I went on. We were told not to come back though as the advanced courses weren't suitable for the expy lmfao

First course with the Expy, second with the company Prado and final one with my company Prado and my father in law

Learned lots and the guys weren't full of "aren't I ****ing clever shit".

There was a crazy Swedish guy with a wrangler cj or something Jeep like with big wheels who scared the living daylights out of me and the mrs on the first trip lol. Mrs Tocks midwife told her not to go again

The expy did come back with its front and rear bumper in tact so they knew what they were doing

Good guys and very helpful so will be booking the F150 on yet another beginner session.

PM when you sign up. I'll make sure I'm on the trip if work permits. I tend only to do the morning trips.

The Dubai group really is excellent and very patient. Just don't get stuck as I'm normally the recovery car and it's hot.
