45% pay rise
"President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a number of decrees within the framework of his keenness to achieve the welfare of the citizens and help them get their ambitions in a stable and comfortable life.
On the occasion of the 40th National Day celebrations, Sheikh Khalifa issued a decree to increase salaries of all federal government employees with effect from January 2012.
According to the resolution a special allowance will be given to undersecretaries and assistant undersecretaries as well as an increase of 35 percent of the basic salary for the employees from grade 1 to 6 to be added in their transportation allowance and from grade 7 to 14 an increase of 45 percent of the basic salary to be added in the transportation allowance."
Nice.

It seems they've been hard done-by - some others are getting 100% rise
That must be where all the speeding fines are going...

From the same government that only a couple ofweeks ago stated that they wanted to see more Emiratis working in the private sector. And now they make government jobs even cushier.

If that is the aim (which I doubt - that'd be thinking) I'd suggest that they make it easier and cheaper for SMEs to set up. You stimulate and grow an economy from the ground up. Business owners have a more stable interest in the country too.

Re: 45% pay rise
Hold on....
A friend told me that a few weeks back the heads of all the government offices and ministries in AD were summoned to a meeting over their upcoming budgets, which has actually been in limbo since March of this year, and told that all budgets were to be slashed by as much as half.
Now I see where the money is going. Funding for infrastructure and development projects, which primarily benefit the expats and consultants, are being shifted to higher salaries for Nationals.
Interesting.
