Default Teachers in Dubai-Process start to finish

Hi guys,

I am hoping to teach maths in Dubai in a British Curriculum school in Sept 2016.

Just wanted to ask if someone could go through the whole process from start to finish please?

And also if there are any schools not worth applying to and vice versa.

Many thanks!! :-)

Right, my mrs is a teacher out here and it was nothing but hard work that got her here...mainly because she had only just done her NQT year though.

Apply online to any schools directly that you can.
Alternatively, find out the Principal's name and then anyone else relevant and send your CV + Cover letter directly.
Apple to the big name companies that have lots of schools (GEMS).
Apply online on the teaching job boards. I'm sure there's a website dedicated to it.
Find any local (Dubai based) agencies that do the recruitment for schools, apply to them.

Then sit back and wait to find out.

Thank you! I have emailed some British curriculum schools with my cv...One got back saying the recruitment for sept 2016 will start in January/February time and I will definitely keep a look out in TES.

Did your wife have the option negotiate a package? And was her starting salary low as she had just finished her nqt year?

No, she just accepted what was put in front of her. BUt she came out in April / May when I'd moved and went door knocking after weeks of emailing and asking for interviews. She got lucky on the second to last day, someone decided to leave at end of year etc.

Starting and current salary still isn't world beating but consider it like this:

X,000 a month
Apartment provided.
Car rental - 1,500 if you're not fussy. 1,500 will get you something decent if you buy a car.
Utilities - a couple; we spend; 800 TV, 600 DEWA, 600 Empower (ave) = 2000
Food - we spend 3-600 a week on food shops depending. Call it 2000 a month for a couple.
Err.... what else? Nothing.

1500 car
2000 bills
2000 food
=
AED 5,500 / month

Anything above that is beer money / savings / fun / holidays.

Roughly, yeah. If you're semi sensible.

I got my job first, I work in recruitment.

How's it going? I wanted to ask with your job in recruitment did you have a lot prior experience...my partner has seen some jobs in Dubai as recruitment consultants but has no prior experience in that field. I think it will be a big struggle for him finding a decent job out there :-(

I had a fair bit and was offered a job by a company and two bosses I used to work for.

Helps if you know people and have contacts, always.

That being said, I know of a few companies that have hired people with zero experience.
