Quantity Surveyors in ME!
Hi All,
Background: I’m a Quantity surveyor in the UK with a Bsc Rics accredited degree in QS and Commercial Management with 3 years experience at a multidisciplinary consultancy.
I’m looking to wonder out into the ME for around a year but finding any roles for myself in Dubai/Abu Dhabi or Doha has been extremely difficult, everyone seems to want 10 years experience for a Assistant QS.
Appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

Why only a year in the region? Or do you mean you've been looking for a year?

With only 3 years post graduation experience under your belt, you might find it difficult to get any kind of QS position in the ME and even if you do, you will probably find it doesn’t pay that well. Have you considered becoming RICS Chartered, that would be a massive plus on your CV?

Get chartered, 5 years min experience and then apply. A lot of the reputable engineering firms either have grads rolling off their QS schemer and are in your situation or they hire a much cheaper assistant QS from the subcontinent.
at least with 5 years experience you might get a decent salary. Other option is to network through LinkedIn or if your current company has a mid-east office then apply through there. A lot of the western junior/early professionals I’ve worked with have come here through an internal transfer.
