Some more info would help - what field? What level? Are you single or will you be bringing your family with you............
Level = PA/Executive Assistant Yep am single and nope I am not bringing any family with me ! So far I have been offered in the region of 18,000AED with no relocation, accommodation or flights (which I have been informed by friends in the Middle East that that is not a good offer)! It be nice to hear from others in the same area as me to give me an indication of what I should be looking for, like ball park figures, what should be included etc Thanks |

Did they ask for money to transfer your CV into 'Gulf format'?? If so, hope you haven't paid it..... God no, I certainly wouldnt be giving anyone money! |

The point that I was trying to make is that, right now, I'd be VERY suspicious of ANY recruitment agency either hiring themselves or hiring for a client, especially for a position that can't be adequately filled by those that are out of work and already IN the UAE. The firm is very reputable and they company have specifically requested a British girl (as we have better experience with English Law, contracts etc than a girl from Dubai). I guess my cv just fills their requirements adequately hence why they called me. Thanks |

Renting housing is very exspensive, you are looking at about AED70,000 for a 1 bedroom apartment, that is approx 1 grand. I would do the homework of the housing situation first. 45K, to be really honest is just "okay". You should ask for at least 60K, because the costs of living here is very high. Dubai is a millionaires market. Even though tax free but alot of luxuries which we enjoy back in the UK, can be very exspensive here to buy perhaps 3 times the price. Food costs are sky rocket. And depending on the area you live, it could be even more higher. It largely depends on what type of quality of life you want to sustain. If "beans-toast" type lifestyle then its good. However if you want to wine and dine, then negoitate more. Everything here is negoitable, they have plenty of money here, so be tough and negoitate hard to get the best deal.
good luck ! Thanks for your response, this is probably the best advice so far - will bear it all in mind Sharon |

That is just being narrow minded there could be numerous reasons, maybe the availability of the British applicants residing in Dubai, perhaps doesnt have what they are seeking perhaps cultural synergy or competencies etc Its economical to hire someone local, but if the locals dont have the skillset then it wouldnt hire the corporate to outsource, whatever the cost ! |

Re: New Job Offer
18000dhs for a specialised legal PA is not great money.
I know someone in a shitty provincial UK city earning £28k part time doing the same. I'd be asking for 80000dhs accom allowance, then it's worth looking at. I think one of the reasons that employers here are looking back at the UK for 'new blood' is for good reason - that an offer of a £40k tax free salary to someone in the UK could look extremely attractive, opposed to someone already living here who knows the costs - hence their salary expectations are higher. |
Re: New Job Offer
Your salary is live-able on but you have to insist for a package as well which at a minimum should include housing, say about 80k per year, one flight home a year, relocation (i.e. where are they going to put you while you are looking for a house?) and health insurance.
