Default Maximum Working Age in UAE

I've searched and can't find an answer to this:

Is there actually a law which lays down the maximum working age in the UAE, or is it effected via the granting (or rather, not granting) of an employment visa? If you're within two years of that age (assuming there is one) at the time of your visa renewal, would your new visa only be until your reach that age?

Thanks in anticipation

(Not quite there yet, but my employer wants to put a maximum age in my contract.)

I'm not 100% certain, but I seem to recall that the UAE up'ed it recently from 60 to 65, but it might only be for certain professions. Why don't you PM Meow? She's bound to know!

This company policy applies to all staff including subsidiaries in UAE.

It's 65 according to the law, but after 60 you can be on one year visas. That said I know of people over 65 who are still on work visas, but then I guess you just have to know the right people.

it used to be 60 with renewals each year, but they have upped it to 65 for certain professions/companies.

got me thinking...when a Saudi states his age is he measuring it in Hijri or Gregorian?

Do they celebrate b'days according to Hijri or Gregorian?

It is actually 65 for all professions now, after that you can have a 1 year renewal depending on the profession, these include engineers, doctors, university professors, accountants or auditors, laboratory technicians, oil specialists, specialists in the media, lawyers, translators and consultants. But the ministry can approve other professions.
Also if you have a license in a free zone there is no age restriction

They do not measure their age unless reguired for pension reasons. Mostly age limits (in schools for instance) are defined by "born between dates...".

yeh but it wont be professions such as for eg hair dressers, shop workers etc etc so it will prob be the same type of "professionals" and i know of people that have been working for government depts and they havent been allowed to "retire" even though they want to.

I look at it the other way round - there is no legal obligation to keep you after 60 just because the law changed. My 'No 2' is 60 now and I've been told he won't get renewed after his visa expires (about 11 months from now).

I don't suppose shop workers would want to work after they are 65.
So everybody can work until they are 65 and after that they need to get permission...which is what the OP asked
