Anyone with any contacts in the Hotel Industry?
My fantastic neighbour has lost his job. He has been at Le Royal Meridien for about 10 years, in an FnB capacity (don't know fine details). He is a really nice guy with a lovely family. He speaks excellent English and has tons of experience. His son has managed to keep his job at the hotel for now. Anyone got any contacts in this field of work who might be able to help. The sadness in his eyes broke my heart.

Poor guy. What does FnB stand for (excuse my ignorance - assuming food and beverage?) and also it would good to know exactly what he does if you can get more info. I know someone at Intercontinental Hotels Group who could check the staff intranet for jobs or perhaps speak with some of the local general managers depending on the level he is at.

thanks EE, he is definatley Management level and it is Food and Beverage. Apparently the Hotel has seen a massive drop in visitors since Christmas. He is quite despondent as he says the only feedback he is getting all over the place is - more redundancies to come in his Industry. I will get a copy of his CV later and e mail it to you if you don't mind.

I am hoping his Middle East experience might be the edge he has over other people when it comes to the interview stage, if he gets to that point. All the hotels he has contacted have basically said the same, we are firing not hiring.

if he's willing to relocate they have been looking for people over here in Sinapore for the Integrated Resorts (Casinos) that open next year. They are already taking on people

Imho BC, your friend has to be a bit more proactive in getting himself back into work-and -as mentioned by Inse I also think relocation is a route he has to look at. Le Royal Meridien belongs (most) to Starwood which is a huge group with major projects in the likes of Egypt and other ME countries. Radisson are in Libya big time and W, Carlton and Rosewood in places like Saudi,Kuwait and Bahrain. He can't sit at home hoping something will land on his lap.If he accepts this without protest he'll end up going down that depressing road of feeling he's been chucked on the scrapheap-not good at his stage in life(I base that on the fact he has adult children). He should be going back to Le R.M and asking them to find him alternatives within the group. Many groups are shedding and invariably they bank on a lot of employees going quietly at the first round.....I hope he finds something soon.
eta: this is the website for Radisson,I see they are looking for A Restuarant Manager in Oman http://rezidor.com/cs/Satellite/Page...5588162263/en/

Thanks for all your comments, I shall pass on these contacts to him. He has been here all morning using my PC sending of CV's to different hotel groups (worldwide), there is a Hotel in Male who are reviewing his CV and said they will get in touch later. Le Meridien Group claim they have no openings (worldwide) and said that they have actively tried to find him another position.
Meydan is a good option BB. Inse I shall tell him about Singapore options. Hospitality is not an industry I am familiar with at all but he has worked for all the major players here even the Burj so it is just a case of getting the word out there.
