Default What the EAD actually gives me ?

Dear all,

I'm in the process of getting a green card through employment. My I-140 was
approved last month, my I-485, which was filed together with the EAD and
Advance parole, has a priority date of early January. According to the
various web sites, I should expect a response on the EAD sometimes soon
(From VSC).

My real question is, what the EAD actually does ? Am I free to work for any
company, for any job, regardless of what the labor certification says ?

If my employer withdraws the I-140 (For whatever reasons), what does that do
to me if my EAD has been approved ? In real life, how often is it that an
employer withdraws I-140s ?

A mate told me that being granted the Advance Parole and the EAD is like
having a green card while waiting for the real thing. Is this true ?

Thanks for any answer,

Greg
