Default Wait Time for visa after interview

X-No-Archive

Hi,

I filed a K1 visa and my Fiance had her interview on October 27th, 2005
at New Delhi US Embassy.
They asked her for proof like more photos, more emails, why she wants
to marry me in USA and not in India.
She submitted all the additional information in person at the Embassy -
the very next day.

When she went to submit this info, they made her pay courier fees and
kept her passport, saying she will get her passport by courier in 10
days or so.

But so far, she has not received anything from Embassy.
We both are worried because no information is coming from the Embassy,
nor TT Service, which is the courier company.

What can we do? What is typical wait time for K1 visa to be sent to
beneficiary by the New Delhi people?

Thank you in advance.

Try phoning the embassy... no one on here is going to be able to tell you how long you can expect to wait to hear back from the embassy, and if they do then it's a guesstimate!

Hi Seanus,

Thanks for the reply to my questions.
While I understand no one can tell exactly how long the wait is, I
posted the questions in order to get an idea, based on other people's
experiences.

For us, it has been almost 4 weeks since the interview and we are
anxious and worried because there is silence from the Embassy.

I tried several times to call the Embassy but they do not pick up the
phone.
I tried e-mail also but no luck that way.

I read on this board that people get their K1 visa immediately or
within 2 or 3 days of the interview.

So, I can't understand why the delay for us.
Are there similar experiences from New Delhi applicants?

Thank you.

I really can't offer any valuable advice about the wait time for K1 visas to be issued, every embassy is different though - If you are worried about the long waiting time and you can't get through by phone or email and have not heard back from them, why don't you try taking your invoice/receipt that you got after you paid the fees etc when you went for the interview and for the courier, go to the embassy and see if someone can help you in person. They will probably say you need an interview to get in, but you should just explain your situation and be firm about it until you get some answers.

G'luck!

Sorry about your situation. Don't take my word for offense, I'm just
trying to help. Can you find any personal connection to Embassy? I
mean, your friends, friends' friends, relatives, relatives' relatives
who has the means to contract Embassy and look into it for you? Or you
can alway write to your congressman to make a request although it might
take a long time. In my country, back door or under the table stuff
sometime works.

Thanks again for the responses. Unfortunately, the doorkeeper at the
Embassy is very strict about letting people in, even US Citizens.
My Fiance tried the approach of showing receipt of the courier company,
but the doorkeeper said she just has to wait for Embassy to return her
passport.

I hope someone in this message board who has gone through Delhi Embassy
sees this and replies regarding their experience.

Why does Embassy take so long? I just want to know if its only me who
is getting this treatment or if this is usual for most applicants in
Delhi.

Also, unlike the USICS website, Delhi Embassy does not have any case
status check available on its website.

Could someone please tell me what are typical reasons for delay of
issuing K1 after the interview?
I understand no one can tell me how long the waiting will be but please
tell me what are the possible reasons for the delay?

Thank you.

Sharma,

I think you'd enjoy the posts at visajourney.com. There are a lot of K-1s posting there, many from India, whose experiences are current. We clearly have no India K-1 posters at this board at this time.
Delays for Administrative Review seem to be common from the Indian Consulates, for a wide variety of given reasons. Most of those are probably 'true', but might have to do with general fraud and security clearances for that country, based on the actions of past participants, not you specifically.
From the top of my head, I'd say the typical wait has been 6 or so weeks, but look over at VJ. There is an active thread for people on AR, with reasons, and specific India threads as well.
Happy reading.

If you have provided the required info to embassy when they asked for more evidence and they have taken the passport and courier fee, it means that they were satisfied with the evidence and will be mailing you the visa. In that case it should not take more than 4 weeks at all. You should e-mail them again with the CASE number and ask the status, generally they reply. Are you sure they have not put your case on Administrative Review? They should have given you some kind of letter when they took the passport. Read it carefully. Embassy does not hold the passport such long time. Have they mailed it and lost in courier? If they don't respond to e-mail, write them a letter with Case number. My experience with embassy is that they clearly tell all the things about your case at the interview, like U need further evidence, your case in under Adimin review etc.
