Visa Interview queries!

Hey Everyone, firstly I just want to say a quick thank you to everyone who posts on this forum, you've all been a real help through this pedantic process and I'm so grateful for everyone who has replied to either my threads or other peoples to put my mind at ease!
I have my interview this week, and I'm pretty sure I have all the required paperwork but I wanted to run it past you guys to make sure I wasn't gonna lose any sleep over it

-Passport
-Birth Certificate and copy
-Interview appointment letter and copy
-2 x Coloured US size passport photos
-MRV confirmation fee and instruction page and copy
-i-134 affidavit, and copy, as well as USC birth certificate, Bank statement, Tax returns and copies.
-2 x Police certificates
-Approved i-129f and copy
-DS 160 confirmation page and copy
-US embassy received petition letter and copy
-i-797 approval notice

And finally continued relationship evidence including photos, copy of his passport page with his stamp that admitted him to England, plane tickets of shared holidays together, phone bill.

Is that everything? And I have I got anything that I don't need to take? Any supportive advice is welcome! Thanks again everyone, here's hoping it all goes smoothly! Nervous is an understatement!

You'll need the courier receipt as well.

Any divorce decrees? Letter from your fiancé's employer and/or pay stubs?

iJoey Mar 16th 2015 2:03 am

Re: Visa Interview queries!

Oh yes my bad, the MRV receipt also has the courier receipt on it too.

Neither of us have been married before, and because he's just re-entered employment in the United States, (about 5 weeks ago) his Dad is acting as the petitioner, and his wages, tax return and bank statements are all in with the i-134 form. Is that okay?

iJoey Mar 16th 2015 2:05 am

Re: Visa Interview queries!

by petitioner, I mean he filed the affidavit, not the entire petition haha

Hi iJoey,

Have you received your documents (passport) as well? What was the turn around time? Best,

Hey Sara, no not yet as my interview was only this morning so my visa and documents are still with the embassy, though I was given back my original birth certificate and police check when I left, I will post about my interview experience later on a new thread when I get the time (:

Hey,

Well done on the immigration. I have my interview in two weeks.

Please do let us know the time of the document return.

Many thanks.

Hey Nick, at the interview I was told to expect a wait of up to two weeks for the return of my documents as the visa is usually processed in 4-5 working days, and then sent out but this can vary.

When it's dispatched to the courier service you'll receive an email/text message letting you know it's on it's way and it's delivery time. As My interview was on Thursday, and today is only Monday I'm not expecting it really until this time next week. But as ever, will let you know.

Good luck with your interview, I'm sure it'll go as smoothly as mine did. All the best

Joey

Hey Joey,

Hoping all is well and your documents have arrived?

If so how long did they take to arrive?

Many thanks.

iJoey Mar 29th 2015 8:35 am

Re: Visa Interview queries!

Hey Nick, no my documents still haven't arrived but this is normal as it's only been 6 working days and you need to allow up to ten.

I have however also received my email letting me know my documents will be delivered on Monday March 30th on the Friday just gone (27th) which was consequently eight days after my interview (19th) if that helps you with a time frame to expect. I will post tomorrow letting you know when my documents arrived!

Side note to put your mind at ease you can track the status of your application even at this point if you weren't aware - via the CEAC case checker, which will change the status of your case from 'Ready' to 'Administrative Processing' to 'Issued'

If you dont know where to look you can find the case checker here - https://ceac.state.gov/ceacstattracker/status.aspx

You will need your case number (:

again, all the best of Luck

Joey

Joey, you mentioned you brought the approved I-129F and a copy to your interview, what do you mean by this? A complete replica of all the documents plus a copy of what you sent for the I-129F or just the I-797? I just ask because i'm trying to compose my documents together ready for my interview shortly :)

Looking forward to this as my husband's is July 14 (and my 29th birthday is the 15th, what a lovely gift a visa for him would be! lol) :)

I took the copy with the approved stamp on it that they returned to me, and just a regular every day photo copy, as online it says to bring two of everything. I didn't bring all the evidence that the i-129f required, JUST the form itself and a photocopy (:

They didn't even ask me to see this though, just as a heads up, but take it incase, better to have something and have them not ask for it, than have them ask for something you don't have!

All the best of luck, you got this!

You need proof that the fiancé(e) is a US citizen - so that means a birth certificate, a US passport, or a Certificate of Naturalization. No originals required... copies will do in each case.

iJoey - you mentioned you brought evidence of a continuing relationship. Did the consular officer look through those?

Re: Visa Interview queries!

I brought evidence too, just in case, and they weren't interested/didn't ask to see it. They ask for the specific documents outlined in the checklist they have on their website, and aren't interested in anything else IF it's straight-forward and there's nothing sketchy about your relationship.

So glad I came across this thread. My fiance has his citizenship interview scheduled in the next 10 days. Hopefully, as soon as he gets his citizenship, he will apply for my K-1 visa.

iJoey, the doc list you shared in post # 1 is quite extensive and will surely help me in gathering my docs once my K-1 visa process kick-starts. I have bookmarked this thread and will keep coming back for updates :)

This blog is such a saviour, i swear :D

Thank you for this list. I wasn't aware I had to have my US fiancé birth certificate for my impending upcoming interview. Aswell as 2 police certificates. I have only my birth certificate and my Police Certificate that's it. For my K1. Do I have to have both of these for my US Fiance?
I have everything else ready plus the I-134 & I-864 (although not sure if need the latter) plus, can I ask how you got a signature from your fiancé onto the I-134? My USC scanned all of the the papers with his signature and then emailed it onto myself and then I just printed them off and filed away ready for my interview. Now I am worried that perhaps he needs to fill it all out again, the I-134 and send off hard copy. Hope this isn't the case as, you can clearly see his signature on the form even though it isn't an original.

Sorry for the extensive questions and concerns. Since reading this it had made more anxious to get everything in order!!

It is suggested that you bring originals of any photocopies that were previously sent (such as USC's birth certificate), but in reality I've not really seen the ConOff ask to see these, so don't worry about it.

To my knowledge, you only need 1 police certificate for the interview. That would be yours. The USC does not need to provide any kind of police certificate or record, at the time of the interview.

You only need the I-134. The I-864 comes later, when you're doing AOS in the USA.

The USC signs the I-134 using a pen, and then sends that original to you, either via US mail or some kind of express delivery (Fed Ex, UPS, etc).

Supposedly the I-134 needs to be an original, with an original signature. You can certainly try using the scanned one, if you don't have time to get the original to you....just be aware that the ConOff has the right to ask for the original.

Thank you Renae. I am going to have to ask him to do that form again, sign & send over via post. I am assuming he doest need to notarise it?
At least he doesnt need to provide HIS birth certificate & police certificate. 2 less things to worry about.
Thank you!

The I-134 does not need to be notarized. Although it might not ask for it, he should go ahead and include proof of his US citizenship (a photocopy of his birth certificate or US passport). He also needs to provide a copy of at least his most current tax return, and possibly the most recent 3 years (sometimes the ConOff asks for that). Not a bad idea to go ahead and include proof of current income as well, in the form of a few current paystubs and/or letter from his employer on letterhead. There should be details on the I-134 instructions at Homepage | USCIS.

Noted. I shall relay this onto him. Thank you!! Apart from that. Everything is ready for the interview. I had my medical on Friday, in which told by the DR all went well apart from still awaiting results for blood test and xray, although no news by next week Friday, is Good news. I shall put a post up about my experience, but not until this Friday has been and gone that way I know for sure, that the blood results and xray were good.
Thanks again Rene.

Re: Visa Interview queries!

Does the I-797, notice of action need to be an original? Or will a photocopy suffice?

Noorah101 Aug 16th 2015 10:29 am

Re: Visa Interview queries!

One is supposed to bring originals to the visa interview. That said, chances are slim that the ConOff will want to see the original, but if she does want to see it and you don't have it, it could cause a delay. So it's up to you.

Hi , I am getting my K1 visa documents together for my interview in 4 weeks time. Yes, I want to start early and make sure things are correct, so I have enough posting time, from my USBF end, if, he needs to post something else out to me before then.

My question: What is a I-797? I need to make sure that I haven't forgotten that, if relevant to my K1. I cannot recall dealing with that form.
Thanks

Re: Visa Interview queries!

It's a notice of action from USCIS. It could be the I-129F receipt, or it could be the I-129F approval notice.

I have the copy of the approved I-129f form with a stamp on it. This was given to me by the London office along with their own letter of informing me that
.... " we have received an approved petition in support of your fiancée visa application"

Would this be suffice of even the correct documents?

I don't seem to have an 797 form and we didn't have any request for more info from them right from start either, if that is the one is in relation too. Sorry for being confused.

When USCIS sends you information, it's considered an I-797. Usually, as Rene notes, it's a receipt or notice of some sort. The form number is usually printed on the bottom of the page you receive in tiny letters off in one corner.

I don't seem to have an 797 form...
You likely have several of them... you just didn't know that that's what they're called.

Found it! Thank you. I had to trawl through a ton of files on my desktop, however... my fiancé only sent me a snapshot of it via WhatsApp. Not sure if I can print off that jpeg. If that is acceptable, although I have now asked him to scan and send via email. 'Notice of Action'. That was back in June last year! Phewee.

Re: Visa Interview queries!

Hi guys,

A quick confirmation of my list of documents that I believe, I would need for my K1 interview.
I would appreciate any feedback with regards to:
1) What is missing/needed
2) What SHOULD be the ORIGINAL

* Visa interview appointment letter
* Fiancé statement of intent letter. From both of us.
* I-134 Affidavit of support.. Printed off and hard copy signed by USCBF
* 2014 Form 1040 USCBF Income Tax Form Signed.
UPDATE: 2013, 2012, 2011 & 2010. All copies via email and was sent last year, late summer. All 1040 forms.
* DS-160 Confirmation
* Copy of approved I-129F
* Copy (Not Original) I-797 Notice of Action of approval.
* Copy of I-864 (although now know not needed until AOS stage)
* A copy of USCBF Passport
* My Original of ACPO Police Certificate
* My FULL birth certificate
* 2 USA sized passport photos
* Current UK passport
* A few recent photographs of myself with my USCBF and his family
* A few boarding passes and itineraries of proof of travel to USA and Visa versa.

I have not yet, registered online, along with paying the Interview fee and confirm the courier choice of delivery of documents, but I do realise this has to be done BEFORE the interview, if I am correct with that fact.
I do hope I have time to do this or what is exactly the cut off time before my interview on the 14th sept to do the registering and payment?

This is all that I have collated so far. I do hope that this correct.

Thank you.
