Varicella, gotta love it
Well it looks like San Antonio is requiring the damn vaccination
supplement, so I'm probably going to have to go get it.
I have a question regarding varicella, though - I know for a fact that I
had chickenpox when I was a kid, but there's no proof of it anywhere
because most of my medical records have been lost by the wonderful
department in charge when I was at university. Would it be reasonable,
then, to request instead to be tested for immunity instead of being made to
have the injection? And if so... anyone any idea how much that'd cost?
TIA,

Yes Targaff that is very reasonable. Call an INS doctor (the
one I had was very helpfull). They hate giving those
vaccinations unnecessary and it is gonna cost you around 75
dollars at least. And giving vaccinations to people who are
immune is not what a doctor wants. My doctor told me that if
they really insisted on I having the vaccine, he would test
me and give me a memo for INS that would be enough for them
to waive the vaccination.
That test (it's called EIA I believe) costs around 15
dollars. You can do that in any hospital or what have you.

1- Will the INS accept the test of "pre-existing immunity" in leu of
the vaccination? Suppose you get the test immunity and they say: "The
rules say..."
2- getting the immunization again will be harmless for sure and will
act as a booster. (I am a licensed physician.)
3- The issue may be time and hassel.
doctor visit, get the test
doctor visit, get the results shot and/or paperwork.
the previous post didn't mention the cost of the doctors visit,
scheduling, gas, mulitple visits.. etc.
Me? I'll take the vaccine now.

The doctor I spoke (on the list of INS) said: yes.

That is true. That doctor asked 120 dollars though. Other
places (cheap health care centers) do it for 75 dollars.
Nobody had the vaccine and/or where ready to vaccinate me
before November, while I needed it in July.

No need for multiple visits, except for picking up the test
result. Gas?? Well.......The test can be made in one of
those health centers, all and all it would cost 20 dollars
they told me, and could be performed within a week.
Again: the "INS physician" I was referring to gave me the
advice just to go to INS and tell them I had the disease as
a kid. They were satisfied with that.
