Use Maiden name or not????
My wife and I are getting ready to file I-131, I-130, I-485 and wondering if
it makes a difference if we use her new married last name, or is it better
to use what is on her visa.
Im the us and she is from a country that does not use last name. So her
visa has her given first name as her last name and FNU (first name
unknown)as her first name. We would like to file all of the documents with
her new last name, not sure if it will cause any problems in the future.
Thanks

Re: Use Maiden name or not????
David,
This may or may not be helpful. When I (USC) was filing for my UK
husband, I was also concerned with what name to use on the
applications, since I had just changed it and it obviously didn't match
any of the documentation I had to submit. I used my new married name
and indicated my maiden named as a former name on the paperwork. I
think the marriage certificate was enough evidence that either name
would suffice and we weren't hassled about it during our interview.
However, it may be different since I was the USC in this case.
Good luck!
Marie

I know their birth names are different. I'm wondering whats on the their passports now.
BTW, I reperesent a woman from Afghanistan whose passport, visa and J-1 documents just have her first name. But she uses the convention of first name followed by fathers first name.

Re: Use Maiden name or not????
Thanks for the information.
My wife is from Indonesia and her passport only has her first name with no
last name.
Her visa has her first name as her last and FNU for her first.
It is very common there for most to only have one name.
Thanks Again,
