Hi,

Im hoping for a bit of advice / clarification regarding the documents required for a visa interview at the US embassy in London.

The website list all the documents you require, however im unclear as to whether I need a police certificate just for myself (UK citizen) or for my wife (US Citizen) as well? Im assuming its just for me as she isnt the applicant?

Also, the website states that a birth certificate is required for yourself, your spouse etc, again does my wife need to supply her birth certificate?

Finally, documents regarding establishing domicile. We both live in the UK, and dont have a US address except her dads house, however we have the following the show intent to establish domicile:
- wifes US tax returns
- wifes US bank account
- Job offer letter for me (signed and accepted, job is to start as soon as I get the visa and move to the US)
- Evidence of my wife applying for jobs in the US (Application forms / letters etc)
- Correspondance with shipping companies and US estate agents
- Draft letter to terminate employment for us both in UK
- Draft letter to give notice of leaving our rented house in UK

Is this likely to be enough to prove that we intent to establish domicile in the US? Are there any other things we can provide that would help?

The draft letters are worthless, don't bother with them.

You are the only one who needs a police certificate. Your wife is a USC and is not applying for a visa.


Keep in mind that the I-130 is used for a variety of family-based immigration scenarios. That said, your wife does need to submit proof that she's a US citizen... and either a US birth certificate or US passport will suffice. Note - never send originals... send copies only.


Don't use draft letters... make them real letters, and take them with you to the interview. Of course, don't give them to the employers or landlord until such time as you actually have the visa.
