update - embassy wants documents we dont have...
I have been talking with Senator Hatch's office, they are trying to find
record of the extension for us at the California INS. So far they havent
found anything, they can't even find my wifes name! She has filed for
extensions on previous trips that we do have a copy of, just not this
latest one.
I was looking closer at the approval that she recieved in 2001 and noticed
that they had inputed her name incorrectly. I updated the people looking
for her to check for this new name too, but I'm really starting to lose
faith in the chances of them recovering anything.
Does anyone know the options we have at this point, I will let them keep
searching but I also want to develop a backup plan. Is there anyway to beg
for mercy to the embassy, this could really happen to anyone and while we
cannot prove that she was approved for the extension, they cannot prove
otherwise either. Unfortunately the burden of proof falls on us.
Just to recap, they need proof that we filed the tourist visa extension and
we don't have ANYTHING, we never received the approval and lost the notice
that they recieved it when her fanny pack was stolen (it was in her wallet)
. If the INS doesnt find it (looks like they wont) what can we do?
