Default Trumps new proposal - RAISE act

Will this affect me and my fiancé who are about to start the K1 visa process? I'm really worried about this

Did you actually read the proposal? Given the question, I'm thinking no.

Fiances and spouses are fine.

Bear in mind this is the very beginning of something that will take a long time to put into effect, if it even gets that far. If you are about to start the K-1 soon, you'll be done and dusted long before this is in place.

My thoughts exactly.

I was going to say "not reading everything thoroughly and jumping to conclusions can have a big impact on your K-1 process".

OP, welcome to the world of US immigration. Read everything twice. Make no assumptions. Jump to no conclusions. Take everything at face value. Answer only the question that is being asked. This is something you need to perfect to get through this journey.

As everyone else has stated, it won't affect you. Republican members of congress such as Sen. Lindsey Graham have spoken out about it - so even if it managed to pass through the House of Representatives it's very, very unlikely that it would pass through the Senate. Republicans have a majority, but a very small one - 52 Republican Senators to 46 Democrat Senators, and 2 independents (who have a tendency to side with Democrats anyways). A lot of the more moderate Republicans would not pass this bill, look at the difficulty they've had with repealing the Affordable Care Act - which is way less of a divisive issue among Republicans than immigration.

Also - it wouldn't impact spouse visas anyways, even if it did manage to get through Congress.
