Default Travelling on a K1 Visa

Hi everyone, I have a question ....

We are about to apply for a K1 Visa, however in the meantime I would
like to visit my fiancee in the US for a few months and was told this
may be a problem if the petition has already been filed whether
immigration would let me in or not. Has anyone had any similar
experiences with regards to this? Also was told by Nebraska that the
wait time for a K1 visa could be 12 months! Any advice would be much
appreciated!

Check out this article at Visajourney, should answers your questions:

Regarding waiting time for a K1 through Nebraska you'll have to check the processing times on USCIS. My K1 through Nebraska end to end is looking like 10 months all up, thats from the day we filed, to the day i'm legally able to enter the USA on a K1.

Hi,
I think for me the whole process will take between 9 and 10 months going through Nebraska on the K1 route.

As far as visiting your fiancee goes, I have been many times since submiting my petition and it has never been a problem at all. (Though I have never gone for more than about a week and a half).

If you are worried, you can simply bring along some proof that you intend on returning to your country, like morgage statements, contracts etc though I was never asked for proof like this + never brought anything other than my suitcase !

Hi James thanks for your reply, the link was helpful but again I wish
there was a straightforward answer to this! It's a long & expensive
way just to be denied at the other end, oh well thanks again!

Hi thanks for your reply, can I ask when you first filed your
petition? We are in the process of doing so now and were told 12
months + ... not the best news i've had!

The wait time you were given for a K1 through Nebraska is fairly accurate. Why not just get married and go for the K-3? Ours took about 5 months and that includes a needless month spent waiting for the Packet 3 which got "lost" in the mail after being sent from the embassy. Of course your mileage may vary.

Hi, thanks for replying. We are looking into a K3 visa but not really
sure of how it works. If I came to the US to get married, would I
have to return home afterwards and wait out the visa process?
Again many thanks
