How long does it take after my fiancee enters US on K-1 visa to be able to travel
freely back to UK to see family?
I know we probably have to get married and file for change of status, but how long
does that take?
Is there a separate filing to get travel permission?
____________
How long does it take to get permission to work. Can she get it at POE upon entering
with K-1 visa?
Or is there any additional waiting time?
Thanks,
Ralph

Yes, you will have to marry, file for AOS and if necessary get advanced parole to
travel back to the UK. My mother died last year and I was so confused about
travelling that I ended up not even attempting to leave the US, so I never saw her
during her last illness.
As far as permission to work, when your fiancee enters the US she will most likely be
given an employment authorisation card right then, I came into Boston with my K-1 and
was given one. She can then apply for a SS # and look for work.
Good luck to you both, Sue

Actually, you don't get employment authorization at too many POEs anymore, although
some local offices will provide the 90 stamp to a K-1er BEFORE you are married. After
marriage you file the Adjustment of Status forms with (or before) your work
authorization form and request for Advance Parole (travel document)
See this site for more details www.k1faq.com
See this site for timelines on processing by local offices
