Default travel during I 485 Please advise.

Hi

I came into the US on H1b six years back. Now six years are over and my
company has filed for my GC and I-485 is currently under process. My
h1b was not stamped in 6 yrs and at this stage i want to travel to
india. What should i do. Please advise.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

Do you have an approved 7th year extension? If so, you can go to India and get your H-1 visa stamped and use that to re-enter the US. Your other option is to apply for a Travel Document (aka Advance Parole) using the form I-131. You should have done that when they applied for the I-485. Advance Paroles are good for multiple entries for a year and can be renewed until you get your green card. If you are subject to retrogression, I'm not sure if you can file for I-131 now.
