translations
Forgive me if this is asked all the time but I searched quickly on this and
found tons of articles related to this but not answering my question.
My wife is Japanese, her birth certificate is in Japanese. The INS requires
that I give them a translation of the birth certificate. What are the
requirements for translations? Can one of her friends translate the document
for her?
I saw that you cannot have a family member do the translation but I would
expect that the person doing the translation would need to be certifide in
some way. She has many friends that could do the translation and I am
wondering if this is ok or if I need to get someone that is certifide to do
this.

Re: translations
Michael,
The requirements for translated documents can be found in the instructions for the I-130 petition that you must file for your wife. 4.D
You can find a suggested format for the required certification here:
<http://uscis.gov/graphics/fieldoffic...al/index.htm#H>

Re: translations
Thanks Jeff.
I did see that before but it just struck me as odd that they didn't require
someone that has some sort of official certification.
