Default Tax returns

Hi all,

I'm in Toronto at the mo, with permanent residance status, landed just last week and hopefully will find a job. If not however i will return to the UK and to my house that i still have (Partner living in).

Just wondering for those of you that have decided to return to the UK, what happens regards paying your taxes in Canada for the current year and will you need to fill out any forms regarding your residency status in Canada to let the revenue agency know that you are leaving and not coming back?

Just asking incase I decide to return if I cannot get a job. Is it just a case of getting on a plane and returning?

Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary

We left Canada in July 2008 after just over 8 years. Before I left I phoned Revenue Canada to let them know I was leaving I remember the guy I spoke to on the phone was quiet surprised he said people don't usually bother. Anyway I just them a forwarding address in the UK there was no form to fill in. At the moment we are preparing our final Canadian tax return.

To be honest the whole tax thing baffles me but maybe this link might help:
