For Sylvia's kind attention
Sylvia,
I am ready to file the application for naturalization, but I have a
problem: I can't remember for the life of me the exact dates of my
vacations in the last 5 years. I never left the country for more than
two weeks at the time, and since I traveled to Europe nobody stamped our
passports.
Now, can I fill the application with a statement like
'to the best of my knowledge' and say 'two weeks in Italy, August 2001'?
or should I put August 1/12 and hope the security of the country is not
compromised by the fact that maybe it was August 2/13 in reality?
I don't want to mess up this thing, but since we did not have the
faintest clue that this was so important we did not keep records, it was
just a vacation not a state visit.
I hope this post will serve as a reminder for other people awaiting
naturalization, please jot down the dates of your trips.

Yes, you can -- use phrases like "about" or "approximately." That is the
way to handle it.

No, don't do this. The N-400 is signed under penalty of perjury.

Sylvia,
thank you very much. Sorry for the delay, was on a business trip,
although I did not leave the country. Well, almost, I was as close to
Italy as you can get... Brooklyn.
