switching from AOS to CP
I have applied I-140 and I-485 concurrently in May 2003. It looks like I-485
processing will last for ever. My I-140 should be completed soon.
Could I switch from AOS to CP. I am from Turkey. Would it be wise thing to
do? Has anyone done that?
thanks,
ali.

Re: switching from AOS to CP
It can be done, but I'm not sure if it's a wise thing. You should find an
attorney experienced with CP.
The problem is that in order to get the file transferred to the National
Visa Center, and eventually the consulate, you would have to file another
form (I-824) that can take a year or so to process. On the other hand,
some consulates may still accept attorney-certified I-140s; in that case,
you may be able to just get attorney to sign off on it and take it to the
consulate yourself. This process used to be very popular a few years ago.
Do be aware that if you choose consular processing, you aren't quite in
the clear. Turkey is a muslim country, and there is a good chance that you
would have to wait for months in Turkey for a security check to be
completed (I'm not sure what the situation actually is with Turkey, with
it being an ally, it may not be quite as bad).
Personally, if I was in your shoes, I would probably go with the I-485.
