Default SSN & Marriage Licence

I just had an email from my beautiful fiancée Christine in the States, concerning some information given to her regarding an MD Marriage Licence.

She was told that only one person need apply but obviously both sets of details need to be on the licence, including both Social Security Numbers. Does anyone have any experience of this, I am certain she has been given incorrect info regarding the SSN.

Any response would as usual, be gratefully received,

Rob

Its worth checking back. You know how it is, the information you get first time round tends to be the conditioned reflex response. I havent heard of this before myself. ( Not that my knowledge is encyclopedic!)

Hi Rob:
My British husband and I (US citizen) just got married here in Indiana on 1/2. For the marriage license, they only needed his passport and birth certificate. Had no problems whatsoever. Plus we did all this in a very small town and that's all they asked for. Good luck.

I just checked it appears the information was partly correct, the requirements are as follows :

Bride or Groom must appear in person and give, under oath, the following information:
1. Full name of each party
2. Place of residence of each party
3. The age of each party
4. Whether the parties are related by blood or marriage and, if so, in which degree of the relationship
5. The marital status of each party Single (never married), Divorced or Widowed
6. The date and place of EACH death or judicial determination that ended any former marriage The license application shall provide spaces for the voluntary disclosure of Social Security numbers of the parties and if disclosed those numbers will appear on the license. Applicant must sign application.

Hope this helps anyone else.

We just got married in New York City last week... although there was a space for him to fill out his SSN he didn't have one - we asked and it was fine - so you shouldn't have to have it before marriage!

good luck!

I am a K1 from the UK, I did not need to supply a SSN for the marriage licence.
I am now married to my wonderfull wife Kristen.
I do though have a SSN now, took about 2 weeks from applying. Get your fiancee
to apply for one asap after arriving in the USA, you just need a passport and
the I-94.

Just to add the procedure for Madison County, IL here. We applied for a licence with my passport as proof of age. You no longer have to have a blood test to be married in Madison, nor do you need a SSN if you are not a US Citizen. You can use the licence the day after you receive it, and it's valid for 60 days.

Peace,

D.

It looks like a driver's license or Birth Certificate must be
provided. Here are some links with information about getting a
Marriage License in Maryland that you may find useful.

Hi All!

I applied for our marriage license in Baltimore City, Maryland by myself
and there is was need for SSNs. I recall that I needed to take both our
birth certificates and my divorce decree. Not sure if each county of
Maryland has their own requirements.

Take care,

Mike

The clerk probably just gave her the standard procedure, and did not realize that if you are marrying a foreigner, he/she might not have a SSN. Anyway, apparently, you have confirmed that you didn't need one

I've been researching the requirements for the License in Washington
State / Snohomish County. Here you need to submit an notarized (by
a public notary or deputy auditor) application. There is no
mention on the for for a SSN. Just a birth date, place, age, Marital
status and present and previous address. It is also an affidavit that
you do not have any STD's or if you do that your fiancee knows about
it.

No witnesses or blood tests are required.

The license is given upon application (when appliying in person)
but is not valid for 3 days and must be 'solomized' in 60 days.

Oh.. .and it costs $54.....

Hi Rob

This is what I was told by the circuit court in Laplata Maryland.
The details you have are correct!!

MARRIAGE LICENSE INFORMATION
How do I get a marriage license?
Maryland requires that a marriage license be obtained from the Circuit Court Clerk's Office in the county where the marriage is to take place.

It is recommended that you contact the Circuit Court Clerk's Office in the county where you plan to marry as each county has different fees. The requirements for Charles County are as follows:

Only one of the parties needs to appear
The fee is $40.00
The following information is to be provided for the Bride and the Groom:
Full names
Ages
States of birth
Addresses (including County)
Social Security Numbers (optional)
If previously married:
if divorced - the year of the divorce and the state in which the divorce was granted.
