Default Social Security Card for K-3 visa holders

Hi all, my wife is gonna be here soon on a K-3 visa. I need to know
that can she apply for a social security card on a K-3 visa while her
I-130 is still pending? If so then, is her social security card going
to have "Not Valid for Employment" printed on it and also what
procedure should we follow to apply for an SS card as it requires some
sort of supporing documents other than a passport with the visa
stamped on it. Thanks.

Your wife is not eligible to apply for a social security number until she either has an EAD card which she applies for at the Chicago address where you originally sent the I-129F or when she is fully adjusted to resident.

My wife came here on a k3 visa. We filed for her EAD a few weeks
later. She a letter telling us to go to the INS ofice so we did. 60
days later she got her EAD card then we went and filed for the SSN. That
took 3 weeks. Always have the SSN and EAD card together.

Hi All!

Didn't you believe the e-mail response you got from Social Security?
LOL As that bright intelligent SSA employee told you she can get an
SSN, but needs to have the BCIS EAD. The SSN card will say "VALID FOR
WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION." Birth certificate, I-94, EAD card,
passport and SSA form SS-5 should be all she needs.

Take care,

Mike
