Default Is sending copy of passport to Ukraine safe?

I am planning to visit Ukraina this summer and have my passport. The
apartment agency is requesting a copy of my passport to prove where I
am coming from. If I scan the inside cover with my photo and name...
is there anything they can do with this? I can always cut the scan off
at the bottom? I hear of stolen passports in Ukraine... but what would
they really be able to do with this? It just seems like an odd
request, but perhaps some of you here have been asked to do the same?
Thanks for any help!

Don't know about Ukraine, but in Turkey, if you stay at a hotel, they make a copy of your passport and keep it in their files while you stay there. Who knows what they do with it later. So I think it's not too uncommon for some places to request a copy of your passport.

Hi,
I can't comment on Ukraine, but I travelled to Russia (Novosibirsk,
Siberia) a year or so ago. I stayed in a hotel, and although they
didn't ask for a copy of my passport before I arrived, myself and my
travel companions had to give them our passports during our stay. They
kept them and returned them to us after we left. I was very unnerved by
this, but I guess it is common. I made two color copies of my passport
and kept one with me at all times and one safely with my travel gear,
just in case.

Just a suggestion, I would stay at an apartment. I went there twice so
far. Much nicer, more convenient, private, etc. Let me know if you
would like more details or assistance.
