Default S.S. # after K3 EAD in N.Y.C

Hi,
I received my k3 EAD recently and went to apply for a social security
number in Queens, NYC. They said it will take 10 weeks! Is this
true? I was in the SAVE system but the Social Security office had not
received a secondary confirmation so they could not give it to tme
yet. Please, if anyone is going through this I would appreciate some
advice. Thanks.

I'm home with the flu trying to rest and you put all this pressure on me.
LOL Here is my educated guess. She comes up in the SAVE, because she is
her legally with K-3 status. They need secondary verification if name
misspelling or date of birth error or the status in SAVE isn't showing work
authorized. Since she recently got her EAD card I assume that isn't showing
yet, so they have to verify that the EAD is legit and that authorizes her to
work.

Awww. get well soon Michael, . Anyway according to the K3 EAD thread that I started, she got her second NOA for the EAD on 24 Nov. That does seem to be long ago enough that she ought to have that secondary verification by now, I mean jeesh........

Hey,

We are from Queens, NY too!!!! My husband is also here on a K3 Visa. We went to the SS office the day after he had received his EAD card. They didnt mention anything about the "SAVE" system to us. The actual SS card was received in less than 2 weeks. Also, my husband went to the SS office the day after he had applied and they gave him the actual number.

Good luck.

But does she have the card in her possession? The SSA office isn't
supposed to process the SSN application based on a NOA.

Sadly I can't say that she has received the EAD card itself, however, in checking back through the K3 EAD Rollcall thread, other folks got theirs about a week after approval online. If that's the case then I would hazard a guess that she's got it and has had for close to a month. But that's me playing Sherlock Holmes. The imperative question would be if she's got it AND isn't in the sustem yet............... Perhaps a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing, but again perhaps not.........

Hi everyone,
thanks for the information. Yes I have my EAD card and I took it with
me to the SS office along with my passport and I was told to wait 10
weeks! They put it in the system and told me they cannot issue the SS
number until they receive secondary verification from INS. I don't
know what to do. They gave me a reference number so I can call and
check with the SS office to see if anything changes but they said
don't come back for 10 weeks. Claudia, your husband is lucky I guess.
I don't know what else to do at this point.

Was this at regular SSA office or Brooklyn Card Center? I would go back every two weeks with my
documents and ask them to check you through SAVE. I think the problem with SAVE is your EAD
status hasn't been entered, so you are still only showing K-3 status with no EAD card. Make
sure they sent a G-845 and after 35 calendar days ask them to follow up on it. Then contact the
SSA Regional Office (RO) and ask them to get involved.
