Request for more info???
Question:
I filed together for AOS, Employment Authorization and Travel Document
by mail in January at my local INS office.
Just yesterday I received a letter from them (I-72) requesting our
marriage certificate in connection with the travel document (I-131). I
included the copy of the certificate in the original application but
they might have misplaced the document or something... Anyway - I'm
not sure.
Not quite sure - what if they want the orig. marriage certificate with
watermark? I'm inclining towards sending back the original instead of
just a copy?... (For EAD and AOS copies seemed to work tho)........

What do you mean by "watermark"? Are you referring to a paper you got at
the ceremony or something that came from a government office? What is
normally sent in is a certified copy of the marriage license. This would
usually be on plain paper and would include an embossed or ink stamp.

A copy is sufficient as long as it shows the "watermark" as you call it and/or any registration and filing marks and seals of the authority where it is filed. We've only submitted copies of any document that was INS required for any of the petitions but made sure that the copies were as close as possible to the originals.
But wonder why they need a marriage certificate for the I-131? Thought the filing of the I-485 would have been sufficient. But what the heck. Give them what they want.
If you have doubts about the copy, then send the original. I'm assuming you received more than one when you received the registered marriage certificate. If not, order a few more for your files.

Re: Request for more info???
Excuse my poor choice of words... As in "original marriage certificate
w/ watermark" I refer to the piece of paper entitled "Transcript from
Records of Marriages" issued by the County Probate Court and signed by
the Deputy Clerk, with embossed stamp on it.
So I'm assuming they need it.................?
