http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-693instr.pdf

go to page 4 of 8, Section III, 1 and 2

(Frequestly Asked Questions)

It quite clearly says that you dont need a full medical. And YES a civil surgeon will try and tell you that you do. I had 3 INSIST that i have to have a full medical. I went through the entire list in my area till i found one that would believe me. If they DONT believe you, fax them page 4 of the instructions with Section III highlighted.

Again do exactly what you've been told as if you were a K1 visa holder, its the same procedure.

Get a new I-693 done, include a cover letter explaining you cam eon a K3 visa and dont need a full medical exam as you had one prior to entering the country and include page 4 of the instructions with section 3 highlighted.

The route to happiness lies in post #13. Book an appointment and take the ammunition with you.

I agree that that is probably the best thing to do and to take that with you to your nearest civil surgeon .

Before submitting my I-485 I had considered all the options available to me regarding medical stuff i.e. send in nothing and take a chance, sending in only my DS-3025 from my London medical, having a full medical again or - doing what the instructions say and submit an I-693 with the parts completed as per the I-485 instructions.

So I made an appointment with my nearest civil surgeon and taook with me - as per Ian's suggestion - evidence that I arrived on a K1 and a photocopy of the I-485 instructions showing that I only needed the vaccination supplement transcribed and not a full medical. They were fine with that and just gave me a couple more shots to complete the series I had started in the UK (tetanus and one other that I can't remember right now....)

I then sent in the I-693 in its sealed envelope with a note attached reminding that I arrived on a K1 and that I did not require a second full mediacl. Fingers crossed I haven't had an RFE so far :fingerscrossed:

I agree with Tracey earlier in the thread that there does seem to be a marked increase in the I-693s being transcribed by Dr.Arnold being bounced and an RFE following. It could well be that that 'convenience' has been rumbled by the feds and that they would prefer the alien to actually see a doctor.

I think word on the street is that Dr Arnold is getting out of the business anyway...
Other docs are doing the transcription, but I don't know anyone who's doing it remotely.

Re: Request for Initial Evidence (I-485)

My fiance arrived on a K-1, and when I called around to get his vaccination transcription done, every civil surgeon (well, their secretary answering the phone) said he needs a full medical again. Instead of arguing with the secretary on the phone, I booked the first appointment I could, and explained it to the doctor in person. Even then, I had to tell him the whole procedure 3 times, until he finally said OHHHH, so all I need to do is verify he's had all his vaccinations?? I said right! He goes oh, ok...and signed the form.

I'm starting to feel really old... when I arrived on a K-1, the vaccination supplement wasn't yet a requirement! :)

When my wife arrived on a K visa we just submitted the DS-3025 vaccination report from the visa medical.

Re: Request for Initial Evidence (I-485)

When I received my sealed envelope the Dr. also provided me with a copy of the I-693.

Pages 1, 3 and 5. But i have noticed on the bottom right had side Form I-693 (Rev. 06/05/08)N Except for page one which contains my signature.

I don't know if that is the problem...

When did you send in your I-693? If it was after 01/01/10 you needed to use the October 14, 2009 edition of Form I-693. Check out the last paragraph here http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/usc...0045f3d6a1RCRD

I sent my I-693 in in December and at that time the current version of the I-693 was also the October 14th 2009 edition. I don't know if this means that because you used an older version that it was invalid.

You should also have had page 4 completed - the vaccination chart. Was that done? Basically you should have had Part 1, Information About You, Part 2, the vaccination chart, and Part 5, the Civil Surgeon's Certification, completed. Was that all done?

I actually did mine in December 09. It contains my personal information, Vaccination sheet and the signature or the Dr.

Tbh I would follow the advice given by others earlier in the thread i.e. find a civil surgeon local to you, phone them telling them about your situation and get them to confirm before you turn up that they aren't going to make you have another medical. Then turn up with your passport, visa and copy of the I-485 & I-693 instructions. My local civil surgeon charged about $60 to do the transcribing.

As the 693 will be sent in after 01/01/10 make sure they use the correct version (14th October 2009). See my earlier post about this.

Note: Maybe an obvious thing to say, but make sure the original 693 wasn't bounced because of an incomplete vaccination record i.e. double check that you do in fact have all the current vaccinations required.

Good luck :)

I wouldn't even try to convince them of this or get this confirmed over the phone. I'd go ahead and do it in person, if need be.

Yes, I can see the merit in doing it that way although I was thinking along the lines of not having a wasted journey (if they are going to insist on another medical being done).

What I did was phone the civil surgeons local to me and gave a brief description of my circumstances and got them to confirm that they wouldn't be insisting on another medical. Although even when I turned up and gave them the I-485 & I-693 copy instructions they were reading them with bemusement and interest - makes you wonder if it's the first time they'd ever seen them ;)
