Update on timeline (Chicago)

Went to the interview, everything was fine and it took about 15 minutes
(it helped to go with our newborn!). The last step was the approval
but the officer looked at our fingerprints and said that it had expired
a couple of weeks ago. She asked if we received a notice to go and get
it done and we said no. I even told her that we called the customer
service and they declined to send one. She said she was sorry to hear
that but they should not have said that, but they should have sent us
an invitation to go get our fingerprints done. She printed a notice and
my wife had her prints done the same day on Aug 3, 2005.

The online status disappeared around August 11th or so and my wife was
approved on the 12th. She received her GC a couple of days after that
(quick)!

Hi all,

My wife has her interview set for August 3, 2005. (She's H1 I am a
Naturalized USC). We applied back in March 2004 in Chicago, and her
fingerprints were taken on April 9th. Based on the 15 month duration
that I heard, her fingerprints will expire on July 9th, which is a
month short of the interview.

We have not received any requests from USICS to be refingerprinted.
How do I go about asking for a new fingerprinting appointment? Call up

their 800 number? Will it throw a monkey wrench in the process if we
call them up?

Any response is appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Not to sure about it as I've never had to re-do prints...but I think
you
have to make an info pass appointment, through www.uscis.gov website.

And your problem is... what? They'll ask for 'em if they want 'em.

Go ahead and call them up. It may actually speed up things, although
it's unlikely in your case.

In my case (that was in 2000, and no interview required), I called them

up around the same time you are at now, and that caused INS to approve
the case within two weeks. In your case, you could indicate that you
are
open to an earlier interview date, although I doubt that will happen.

My guess in your case is that at the interview, the officer will tell
you that your case is continued, and order another set of fingerprints.

Regardless of whether or not you call.

Thanks Ingo.

Ian, I have heard of USCIS not stamping the passport since the
fingerprint checks had expired and they did not know about it. I do
not want this to delay the process any longer. You have to be
proactive when dealing with USCIS. I suggest you do the same in your
cases.

Okay... thanks! I didn't know that.

Thanks again, I appreciate your concern. I'll be sure to be proactive
in
all my future dealings with USCIS.

Called USCIS. They said they cannot authorize such a fingerprint
appointment, and most likely they will issue us one during the
interview.

So I guess this means we will not the G/C stamp at the interview
because her fingerprints will be expired. We'll call them again on
July 3rd, that is the expiration date for the fingerprints.
