re:Confusion with EAD
There are two types of EAD. You are
entitled to a temporary EAD when you come in on a K1 visa, which is valid
for three months. In that time you have to marry and file your AOS papers,
along with an extending EAD and AP. If you are lucky (it depends where you
live) you may be able to do a walk in filing of this paperwork. Some
places, like Chicago only accept mailed paperwork. If you can do a walk in,
then I believe you can get an EAD and AP approved that day. IF not, then
unfortunately you will have to wait for EAD. Each centre has a different
processing time, such as Chicago is approximately a three month wait. I
believe you might have wasted money applying for the temporary EAD, as it
takes such a long time to recieve when you mail it in, that you are almost
upon your three monmth deadline for applying for AOS etc anyway. This was
the same reason I didnt bother with mine, and decided to have three months
off work and wait for AOS filing.
I hope this helps.
