question reguarding checking status online

question reguarding checking status online
my wife and i went to the local bcis office in portland maine.....and applied for AOS, AP and EAD.
to check the status of a case online it asks for a 13 digit receipt number, at the local office we were trold that the A number i received was what we used, and yet as i went to check this today it appears it isnt 13 digits long.....anyone else have this happen? or is there something i am doing wrong?

AOS, AP, and EAD cannot be checked online.
