Default question re interview for AOS

I am married to a woman I met who was over here in the USA on a F1
student visa. We married about 2 yrs ago, and went to the INS here in
Houston in June of 2001 to apply for AOS. We were told it would take
at least 2 years to get an interview. I had to fill out a number of
forms, and I believe they also asked me to show copies of my tax
returns for the past couple of years.

Well, we have had no interview yet. So I am going to go down to the
INS office to see what is up.

Also, I am planning to quit my job and go to law school. That poses a
possible problem. At the time of the interview (assuming it will
happen in the bnext year or so) are they going to ask fior
verification of income again? Will this be a problem for us if I am
going to school and have no job? We have money in the bank.

They almost certainly will require a new I-864 and one of the common pieces
of evidence is a letter from your employer. However, if your wife is now
working her income can count. I adjusted status after my wife had quit her
job to be a stay-at-home Mom and provided an updated affidavit of support
showing our joint income. You can use assets at the rate of $5 assets for $1
"missing" income.

Andy.

Hmm. What is bad is that you cannot work during law school, or not
very much. I wonder if both the wife and I might obtain jobs just
before the interview, even if they are very low paying jobs, and if
that, in combination with my past tax returns, might be enough. What
might happen if the interview takes place while neither one of us is
working, but my last 3 tax returns shows adequate income for the past
3 years?
