Question re: citizenship eligibility...from I-485approved or from date i got GC?
HI everyone,
My I-485 was approved (employment based) in Jan 1998. My actual GC was
approved MArch, 2000. The date on my GC says permanent resident since
Mar 2000.
The immigration officila at our local INS says i am eligible for
citizenship since my I-485 was approved 5 years ago.
My question is: is this true?
The INS naturalization guide says its the date on my GC, whichclearly
says Mar 2000.
ANy advice will be appreciated!
thanx

The I-485 approval IS effectively, the green card. You are a permanent
resident when I-485 gets approved. The I-551 is just a formality. What do you
mean by "My actual GC was approved"?
