Default Question about reported processing times...

We went for our interview on 8/20 to adjust status in the Fairfax VA uscis office, all seemed to go well with the interview but we did not get a "Congratulations, you have been approved" statement from the IO, he did however keep telling us that I should receive the GC in 5-6 weeks (assuming all was ok), he was not feeling good on the day we were interviewed and apologized for being behind on time, since then there have been a couple of touches on both the I130 and I485 but no change in status.

I have seen on the uscis site that Fairfax is reporting that the last I485 they approved was early January when you look at the field office processing times, most report 5 months as they are within the target timescale for approval.

To me it looks like we will be waiting until they catch up to June 2010 cases filed which is about 5 months away using their current timeline, does anyone have any experience with this?

Can you post the link you are looking at?

I think what you are looking at is the processing time for the initially filed I-485 up to interview date...not AFTER the interview takes place. Once your interview takes place, you cannot go by the USCIS processing times anymore....your case has been processed.

Thanks Rene, it is the part on the uscis site that allows you to check current processing times..

https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processingTimesDisplay.do

The field office is Washington DC (although it is in Fairfax VA).

We have not heard anything since the interview apart from a couple of touches on the forms, he did say it would be 5-6 weeks so maybe I am stressing about it too early, this Friday is 5 weeks.

Having said all that, if it is the time up to interview date then it gets more intriguing as our forms were submitted early June 2010 and we have had the interview.

Why are you concerned about the posted processing dates?

As soon as you had your interview, you fell 'off' of that schedule. If you want to follow up on your own case, you can do that. You can try calling the 1-800# but I think your result would be better if you went in to your local office. You really should wait 6 weeks from interview date though.

I agree with Meauxna. Those processing times are for processing the I-485 only, up until the interview date. Now that you've had your interview, you're no longer part of that processing time.

What is posted is USCIS's best guesstimate of processing times...of course I-485s can be processed faster than USCIS predicts, which is evidently what happened to you.

Wait until after 6 weeks has passed from your interview date, and if you still have no updates, make an Infopass appointment to go ask about the status in person.

I guess I was just being paranoid or getting confused with the differing dates, thanks for the responses, at the moment I am working in Florida until November so if nothing has arrived by the time I return to VA then I will make an infopass, not a lot of point making one down here as it will not be my local office so they wont have the file.

I guess the main problem I have is that the IO did not say if we were approved, he just apologised for running late and said he would review the file later, he did tell us about getting the GC in the mail and that it would have the information about what to do in the future (2 years etc), but then qualified it all with "if everything is OK".

Thanks for the replies, time to make a cup of tea and de-stress!!!

What your officer told you, and did, is normal to other reports here. Sometimes they'll say they are recommending you for approval, but it usually needs to be signed off by their boss, hence the delay.
I do recommend checking back with them after 6 weeks (unfortunately you can not call your local office). Each office has a different method for case follow up.
