Default question about driving

hi all,
here's the question. when my fiance arrives here with the K-1, and before we are married, how does the driving insurance work? i live in ohio, where you must have car insurance, and i know she can drive on her foreign liscense for up to 6 months. is there an international driving insurance or what?

thanks for any info.

don't you have a "guest" part of your insurance? with mine any "guest" that drives my car that isn't my parents or spouse would be covered

Add her to your insurance. As for driving 6 months on an international DL, that depends on your state laws. In NYS if you are a resident of the state you have 30 days to get a NYS DL. Coming in a K-1 is considered establishing residency.

Hi,

I've been driving in Ohio as a guest on my wife's insurance and my UK licence (with an International Driving Permit which I don't seem to need), no problem. According to the insurers I do this until I have a SSN and an Ohio driving licence, then I get added to the insurance documents as a named driver.

Hope this helps.

Dave

Just as an FYI... I've been discussing this issue with my insurance agent and they brought up a good point about his driving records - since they won't have access to them our insurance will be at the highest step level (I lose my credits). If we can provide driving records (including any driving incidents or proof of no incidents and date first licensed) then they'll be able to adjust our insurance rates accordingly.
