Prescription charges

Re: Prescription charges
This is why we harp on about having health insurance in place before you move. Even with insurance medications can be expensive. We have a $1500 pp deductible now $3000 for the family (employers changed again plans so we chose this). So we generally pay for everything all year as we don't go to the doctors often and never meet our deductible. The pharmacy plan comes under the same deductible so we pay the full amount for prescriptions until we reach our deductible and then its a 10% share. The dudes nasal spray alone was $130 because it had no generic equivalent.
I can't imagine what the costs would be for the likes of my parents in law who practically bring another case on holiday for all their medications.

Re: Prescription charges
I do have insurance but we were unable to get any that included pre-existing conditions Both of us are retired so no workplace cover.
Will have a look at Kaiser permanente
Yes GeoffM, I thought my husband had it sorted but apparently he couldn't get insurance until we were over here.
I've got a doctor and he's given me a prescription but the insurance I have wont cover that. Just wondered if there was any other way round it?

Re: Prescription charges
Most insurance through a group plan will have a 1 year on pre-existing too.

Re: Prescription charges
You read now and then about people getting their prescriptions filled from Canada, but never had the need to do it myself. Would that be an option to garner some savings?
Definitely worth shopping around.....one of my little ones was on antibiotics for something or other last year.....CVS that we'd always used wanted $110. Switched to HEB over the road for $15....

Re: Prescription charges
I twice specifically asked the OP what she and husband were doing about health insurance and she said "husband had it sorted" - no further details were given.
She did tell us that her children were sponsoring them, hence my questions because, as we all know, health insurance can be a nightmare, and she obviously had pre-conditions.
I wondered if this would issue would come back .............

You are totally missing the point - that is the stock in trade answer from any husband who wants to stop his wife nagging. It doesn't actually mean anything. I think you'll find it's an anagram of "be quiet woman - I'm watching the footie"

Move back to the UK. The US is no place for anyone with any kind of illness.

Here is a good site that compares drug prices at different stores in your area. It also offers coupons for discounts. If it is generic drug, the price will likely be pretty cheap.

Re: Prescription charges
Under the Affordable Care Act insurance companies can no longer exclude pre-existing conditions (smoking-related conditions excluded, I believe) after Jan 1, 2014. Some insurance programs, such as the California plan that fatbrit references, may start covering pre-existing conditions sooner.

We emigrated in October of this year. I brought 3 months of my meds with me but need more and have been unable to find any insurance company that will help because they are pre-existing conditions. Has anyone any advice?
