Hi all,

This is an interesting and helpful community, I've been reading posts here for a long while but finally decided to post.

Seems like this will be a stupid question, but regardless I need to know... I'm beginning to understand the order of which forms you apply with and such like, but do you do all this after you are engaged?

Basically, can I enter the US on a tourist visa, get engaged, and then file for the relevant fiance visa? I'm guessing by the name that this is the correct sequence but I just want things to go as smoothly as anything of this sort ever can

Congratulations to those who are experiencing successes in this process and I thank you all in advance for any help I receive!

Cheers

Yes you could, assuming you go back to your home country for the interview and before your visa (or 90 day VWP Stay) expires.

Yes you could. But, if you told the POE that you were entering as a visitor to get engaged, they many not let you in. It's up to the discretion of the POE officer. You would most definitely want to bring with you plenty of proof that you will be returning to the UK (return plane ticket, letter from employer, lease, financial assets, etc).

The more typical route is to apply for the K1 while the fiance(e) is in their native country and the US citizen fiance(e) is in the U.S.

But, if you are not yet formally engaged, I could understand why you'd want to visit your fiance(e) to formally propose.

Thanks for your replies - thats good to know. I should have mentioned that I'd be returning home before filing the application

Guess I've got an interesting and exciting ride ahead of me then...

Just to clarify...your username indicates that you are in the UK. Would you actually be coming on a tourist visa or visiting on the Visa Waiver Program without an actual visa? Uk citizens don't need a tourist visa to enter the United States unless they are otherwise ineligible to use the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

Yep, you have an exciting ride ahead of you! I do suggest that you go to the root thread under Rete's name at the top of the Britishexpats page and start learning all you can (that is, if you think she's going to say yes!)

Good luck!

Thanks for your help, I hope she says yes

I can indeed use the waiver program, I phrased my original post badly... no surprise there heh.

I'll get reading that post - cheers
