Okay to use I-864 downloaded from travel.state.gov?
Since in a few days my husband will be leaving US, not returning till June, 2005, can he use the I-864 downloaded from travel.state.gov and take care of it now, or do we have to wait for the I-864 that NVC will be sending to me? Also once the I-864 is signed and noterized, how long is it valid for? Thank you!

Yes, he can use the I-864 printed from the internet. Once it's signed and notarized, I would guess it to be good for a year, unless the information changes. But I would try to get it signed and notarized as close as possible to the time that you need to submit it, so the information will show as current as possible.
Best Wishes,
Rene

Thats interesting. When I recieved the "bill" for my I-864, I was told NOT to use the downloaded ones, but to wait for the official form to be sent to me.

The I-864 that will be sent by the NVC has a bar code on it, I believe, that connects the form to the alien's file and saves some data entry and associated possibility of error.
Attach the NVC copy of the the I-864 to the downloaded copy that has been completed, signed, and notarized. That way the NVC can still scan the bar code.

Wow! I can only say my question was answered 200%! Thanks for all the above info, and the tactic on pushing back visa-receiving date... Funny we do need that in our situation.
