Default Oath and Naturalization Question (Final Step)

First sorry for cross posting, but I had two questions:

1) Can someone who just passed the citizenship test and is waiting
for the oath date, leave and enter the country ? I ask this because
on the naturalization guide, one of the questions that is asked from
people who're becoming citizen is "Have you left the country while waiting
for Oath? ", why is that important ?

2) Can someone post what is the wait time to get Oath after
passing the citizenship test in Chicago INS ?

TIA for any inputs.

Yes you can leave the country between having your Natz interview and taking
the oath. When you go to take your oath you get a form that asks you all the
questions that were asked when you had your interview (if you've travelled,
do/sell drugs, been separated/married/divorced, been in trouble with the law
etc).

I suppose if circumstances have changed since having your interview they
need to update their records.

Have you checked the INS website for Chicago. Some of the INS office
websites state whether oath ceremonies are given the same day or not.

What about leaving the country while waiting for your interview? Do you think that can cause delays.

The INS Chicago site does not say much and points to the parent web
site which is very generic, but I'll search thru it again.

Actually the people I know had their test and are waiting for oath. But it
is
no big deal, thanks for your response.

Hi,

I passed the naturalization interview in Oakland, CA last January and still
waiting for the INS letter with the auth ceremony date! It's been over a
month now. Maybe we can take a poll on different offices to see what are the
typicall times.

Cheers!

Typical time for oath ceremony after interview is about 4 weeks in San
Francisco/Oakland.

If you leave the country while waiting for Oath for 1 week, would that
make you ineligible for oath ?

Asked and already answered.
You CAN leave the country between having your interview and getting your
oath ceremony.

I did not mean to repost the same question, but I got a response from
a lawyer friend who told me that on a 3 months wait for oath it is better
not to leave the country, but in a 6 month wait it does not matter. I was
told that some people who had left the country waiting for their 3 months
to happen were forced to be interviewed all over again when they were
rdy to do their oath, which does not make sense at all to me.

That's why I am a bit confused now.

Based on marriage to a US citizen... last 3 years of taxes filed jointly to be sent in with the petition. In our case, that included the last year. But if your interview comes up much later, they may require to see the latest filing, (if not included with the petition) at the interview.

Thanks for the info. However, it's been 6 weeks since I passed the interview
and I haven't received any notification about the ceremony yet! Still
waiting!

Thanks,
