Default NYC District Processing Dates

Hi gang. Just noticed a big jump in I-485 processing dates for NYC district. (From Jul 2003 to Jan 2004).

My receipt date is Sep 2003, so that allowed me to file a formal request with USCIS for information since I have not received an RFE or decision. (I was interviewed for AOS on Sep 2005, pending background check)

Wondering about other folks' experiences when their processing date passes the dates listed for their districts.

Promising? Sit back and continue to (try to) relax?

My timeframe is the same: Filled in NYC, Receipt Date Sep 2003, AOS interview Sep 2005, and still pending background check as of 4/06.

On April 20,06 I received the following email from USCIS (Case Status Online):
"your I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN was received here for processing. It is taking between 990 and 999 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete."

I surely hope that this is just a standardized response and doesn't mean that after almost 3yr waiting there will be another 3yr wait.

Does anyone have any insights /suggestions as to what to do next?
