No interview letter?

Hi, again...
I recently got an email through telling me my interview date and that it had also been sent to me in writing. Ten days later and no letter, I'm not concerned as I've seen a thread where it's happened to someone else.
What I'm wondering is what do I have to take? The website says I need passport, photos [how many?!], birth certificate, police check and photocopies.
Do I need anything else? I was assuming I'd have to take my paperwork down with me, my DS156/156k/157 etc as well as our proof? And I got given a sheet at the medical that I was told to take along with me.
Also, are you allowed someone to come with you? I'm in for the 8am slot, I live too far out to do anything other than get a train down and the earliest gets me to london for 7:32 thus I am getting a hotel the night before and my mum is joining me because she worries. Can she come with me to the embassy or shall I leave her with my electronics at the hotel?
Finally, and I know I'll get mocked for this question, does a phone count as an electronic device? I'm sure it does but I'd rather ask and face some sarcastic remark than needlessly leave it behind and get lost without googlemaps!

Your mother can only go into the Embassy if it has been arranged in advance and she has been added to the list of attendees the security people have. A this stage it is probably to late to arrange it, but you can send an email and ask. You probably will not find out if she is on the list until she tries to go in with you.

Yeah I thought as much. Looks like I'll be writing down directions, how retro! I'll leave my mum at the hotel with my bag in case that turns out to be too large.
Thanks for your speedy response, this forum is so much better than google all that does is give me a head ache and anxiety!

Probably best to leave mum at the hotel, at least she will be comfortable while waiting. If you do decide to ask I said send and email which is the old way, now you need to use the contact form on the London Embassy website.

I am currently in the same boat as you were. I have the list of what to bring, have registered with a courier, and have the email confirmation from the embassy that states when my appointment is - but no official letter yet. Did you have any trouble without it?

Just email them through the contact form and ask them to respond - you can print out the email like Jme did - it shouldn't be an issue.

I didn't so much get an email as a single sentence response from their online contact form that just said "your appointment is scheduled for 7th November at 0800. This has been sent to you in writing".
No one at the embassy asked to see a letter or anything though and I was fine.
The only problem I had was the attitude I got from the lady dealing with my case when I said I hadn't paid online as I had never been told to. It was all dealt with there and then at no extra stress or time delay and I got the visa!!

Good luck with yours!

Congrats on the visa approval!!! Presume you meant the courier fee?

Both courier and visa fee. I had to pay $240 (why they work in dollars when they are located in England is beyond infuriating and smug) before they would process my visa. Then I had to go to the courier desk to pay £8.95 (the courier is located in the same building but operate using a different currency, there are no clocks so I don't know how many time zones exist in the embassy) after I had got the approval of the American Government.

And that is the link for the courier fee as well.
Well done on getting your visa approved

You are dealing with the US, and being the US we work in US dollars. If you don't like it, you don't have to deal with it. But then, you're the one who wants the benefit.

It seems a bit stupid to mess around with an exchange rate when we're in the UK is all, I wouldn't say I don't like it. I'm quite happy to tolerate the American government to be with my fiance but don't think I won't giggle about their odd ways, I may be marrying an American but I'm still bloody English!
I wonder if the employees all get paid in US dollars too.
