Newbie here, can anyone help???
Hi,
Im Casandra, Im British and currently living in London.
My fiance is way over in Georgia and we are very keen to share
our lives.
We have both searched the net, and to be honest, are totally
overwhelmed by the process..
but where theres a will, theres a way..
Im new to all this and have checked through what the process entails,
however we have been together just 18 months, and I am concerned
that our K1 would be declined.
Does anybody here have experience of this and also the big
question that no doubt has been asked millions of times
( Im on dialup )
is how long would it take roughly from start to finish to gain the K1?
Its probably like asking how long is a piece of string, but Id really
appreciate any feedback.
Many thanks,
Casandra

As long as you and your fiance have seen each other in person at least once in the past 2 years, he can file the I-129F with no problem. USCIS doesn't really care how long you've been together, only that you've met in person within the past 2 years. So don't worry about a rejection based on your length of relationship.
As for how long it takes....if it's a straighforward case, probably around 6 to 8 months is a good guess....maybe less, maybe more.
Best Wishes,

That should give you a start, and come on back with any questions.
Believe me, I understand how overwhelming it is at first...but take it one step at a time and it will be easier to understand. For now, concentrate on the I-129F and what it entails. Once that gets mailed off, turn your focus on to the next phase.

Re: Newbie here, can anyone help???
As one who has gone through this process, all I can say is good luck.
My husband is Canadian, and from the time we filed our application in
March of 2002 to the time we heard something back, it was 8months.
After that, he had to travel to the embassy in Vancouver for the next
step. The major wait was the processing of the I-129F. Depending on
the processing center, you could be looking at anywhere from a couple
months to nearly a year. There are only 5 in the US, and each one is
accountable for a different region of the country. I hope that things
have gotten better since we did this. With the exception of Rhode
Island, all of the centers were running behind their stated times.
Yes, it is very hard to wait through all this, especially since the
process isn't cheap, either. There are application fees all along the
way; I think we've spent over $1500 on fees and such over the years.
One thing that you can do early is to put together the required
documents for the next step, most of which you had to do for your
initial application. If it takes longer than 6mos, you would be well
advised to get new, updated letters from your financial institutions.
And make sure you have your tax records on hand for the last few years;
we were told to bring them when we went to file his change of status
after we were married. I think we were cut a break, however, since by
the time we went in for our interview, I was very obviously pregnant (4
1/2mos along), so it was clear that this wasn't a marriage to get him
into the country. We ended up not needing quite a bit of what we were
required to bring with us.

Thanks ever so much to all the your replies.
Its great to hear from people who have gone through or are
currently going through this process.
It reassures me thats theres hope, when I have those panicky
moments of 'What if they simply wont let me go?'
Still, I shall take one step at a time as advised, and best wishes
to everyone on the board.
Thanks again,
Casandra

hiya
lol my name is Cassie, marrying someone in Georgia too!
Just so you know, when your other half gets around to filing the I29F, it will be going to Texas. Currently, they are sending their fiance apps to California so it may take a little longer.
Don't forget that once you recieve your visa you have 6 months to use it. I am an idiot, trying to arrange everything on an estimated time knowing full well a little hiccup could cause lots of problems. Good luck on your journey xxx
