Default Marriage overseas

We got married in Malaysia 15 years ago and I cannot recall notifying the British High Comm. Will our marriage be recognised in the event that we settle in the UK and my husband applies for a settlement visa? He currently has a job offer in the UK and may ask the company to apply for a work permit (or is that the wrong route). I tried to read up the Civil Parterships Act but couldnt really see what I wanted (it's a very long piece of legislation!! )
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
