London Waiting
I'm looking at getting a H1-B visa and time is critical (my fiance and I need to be together). And I am putting together a timeline that I think is reasonable so I can give my prospective employer an idea of when I will be able to start work.
Does anybody know how long the waiting period is for interviews in London? Or where I can find this out, they don't post it on the WWW.
Also,
I am currently in the UK but want to stay in the US after I get there for Xmas and my application is unlikely to be processed by then. So:
* Is there a stage in the process where I have to send in my passport?
* Can I put the address where my fiance lives in America as my address, then change it when we move in together (hoping for Jan)?
Thanks, they don't make this easy do they?

Others mentioned that it usually takes about four weeks to get an
appointment, and you then get your passport with the visa either right at
the interview, or it is mailed within a few days. I believe it is the
latter.

Together with the visa application form. Do be aware that having an H-1B
petition approved, or even just pending, can cause problems with entering
the USA; this was the one situation where I was grilled in secondary
inspection (they ended up admitting me, but only for a few weeks rather
than the usual, at the time, six months).

Yes, absolutely.
