L! to AOS and EAD renewal
(Disclosure - I am a cybersecurity attorney that also does pro bono immigration to help people that are clueless. I do not make money from it and I certainly don't come here to seek advice and charge others for it. I currently help a kid seeking asylum and a two or three marriage-based people that I know get through the process (I work for a HUGE multi-national corporation). This site helped me when I went through it 20 years ago and I try and pay it back)....anyway......
A person is at my company on an L1. Company is not renewing it and expects him to return to India at the end of May (L1 renewal is more stringent now and he will most likely be denied). His EAD runs out in May. He is getting married to a USC in April. My Question is: When I help him apply for his conditional residence through AOS, will USCIS renew his existing EAD? My hope is that it will of course. He does not want to lose his job at the end of May and hopes the company will keep him if he has the right to reside and work. Anything that can be suggested to help him?

Thanks. Not sure why i didn't think of that. Will ask on the NYS Bar forum. I always think of here as being the real experts

This curious person would like to know how he got an EAD if he is here on a L-1. The L-1 is the permission to work until the status is ended or revoked.

I can ask him that and let you know. I assumed it was issued as part of the L1 - but, of course, you are correct, the L1 is a work permit in itself. If he gave me bad info and doesn't have an EAD, I guess that will answer my question as far as an EAD extension goes. Will ask him today.

Even if he currently has an EAD, it won't be extended. A new EAD will be applied for and received because it's under a different qualifying event.
