Can you some who have recently received Packe # 3 clear some air and list what forms they found in packet #3 and what forms they submitted?

I am getting confused reading all different post regarding this mistry packet 3.

I am sure it will help many others like me...

thank you all...

Hi IMhp,

Im copying this from my earlier post...

well...he gave me 6 sheets of paper basically -
Two of them were the forms -That is the the DS 230 part I and the DS 156.
The 3rd one was the sheet giving details about the PCC.
4th is the sheet about the fiance visa -also has kind of a checklist
5th is the sheet with information for photographs.
6th is the covering letter stating that they have ur case with them and it also gives u ur BMB number.

He asked me to only submit the 2 forms(DS 230 and DS 156). One of my doubts was the photograph and he said i dont need one! he also mentioned that im going to be filling the DS-156 again. so i guess u r right about that one. The only other thing he asked for was my BMB number that he had given me the earlier day- but since i had extra copies of the packet3 with me i gave him a copy of my cover letter.

Just for our info...Eric cud u post what u submitted in the packet 3 ?

For packet 3, we submitted OF-169, DS-156 (2 copies) and DS-230 part 1. We downloaded all those forms from the Internet. He took them all from us and said we would get packet 4 in the mail in about 15-20 days.

He didn't say whether they needed photos or not. We pasted photos on both DS-156 forms and he accepted them.

Eric,
I found DS-156 and DS - 230 from mumbai consulate's website but I can't find OF-169. Can you please tell me where did you downloaded that form from?

Thanks

Eric, in your Aug. 22nd posting you said "For packet 3, we submitted
OF-169, DS-156 (2 copies) and DS-230 part 1. We downloaded all those
forms from the Internet. He took them all from us and said we would
get packet 4 in the mail in about 15-20 days."

So I'm assuming you had your wife call Mumbai, they said they have
your file, and she went the consulate and submiteed the forms??
Because as you may recall, I'm pretty much on the same timeline as
you, but my wife hasn't been getting through at all, and when she did
they said that they didn't have it. Please let me know. I'm trying
to get her interview date by mid October at the latest....let me know,
thanks.

Hero - Yes, my wife called the consulate and they said they received her file on the 12th of August. Once they received her file, she immediatley went to Mumbai to submit the forms for packet 3.

It's is very difficult to get through to the consulate. I would suggest calling after 11 am.... that seemed to work best for my wife.

Good luck. I hope things go quick for you.

Eric, we finally got through and they said they had shipped it out to
her on Aug. 12th. So now she's going to Mumbai to fill out and submit
Packet 3. Thanks for your great help so far! Also, IMHP, I know you
said you had downloaded Packet 3 forms (DS-156, DS-230) from the
Mumbai consulate website. I had originally done that, but you'll find
that forms from the BCIS website are more accurate, they are updated.
In fact, I think the Mumbai versions are not correct, and they look a
bit different. I would recommend going here to get the Packet 3 docs:

http://www.state.gov/m/a/dir/c4456.htm

I talked to the Embassy in del and was told packet 3 will be mailed to us
and will contain interview and medical letter. Also 2 forms DS156 and
other I dont remember. The packet I thing you guys are downloading from
BCIs website is from Immigrant visa (i-130) . You dont need that for a
k3 petition. For more details you can see the embassy website .

Okay, my wife is going to submit Packet 3 in a few days to the Mumbai
consulate. I think the most important thing in this entire VISA
Process is actually learning the process and then getting a good idea
for how long each step approximately takes. Can anyone give an idea
of how long it takes once you actually go to the K3 Visa interview,
and they say, "you can get the k3 visa," how long it takes after that
to actually get to the US? I know for some student visas they stamp
your passport and give you the visa on the same day. But what about
K3 visa? How quickly can my wife get on the plane once her interview
is finished? Do you find out the same day but have to wait, or do you
find out at a later date? Thanks.

My wife went through the Chennai embassy for her K-3 visa. We were
informed immediately after the interview that she was approved for the
visa. They kept her passport to stamp the visa. The consulate officer
said it would take 3 days but we got it the next day with the sealed
brown envelope. Keep in mind the officer first had to check his
computer to see if its ok to issue the visa. I don't know what he was
checking but perhaps he was seeing if there were any red flags from
the security checks, name checks etc.,

Wish you the best!

okay, so here's a quick recap of my situation: my wife submitted the
packet 3 directly to the mumbai consulate about 3 weeks ago. now
we're waiting for the interview date, and preparing the paperwork, and
that's what i'm posting about. i'm trying to develop a list of what
she will need to take to the interview. here's what i've gathered
from postings and websites, i want to see if i have everything
covered. i've put what i believe i need and if i have questions i
need help with then i've put them in parenthesis.

-aos, i-134; the i-864 will be done after she gets here

-bank letter (where can i get details about this? is it just a
statement that shows i have $x in a bank?)

-job letter - are there specifics about this? like signature by
manager, some payment stubs....what exactly do i need to show i have a
job?)

-3 yrs. tax return papers (1040 for sure, maybe w2?)

-police clearance

-medical exam

-wedding album

-mine and her passport

-mine and her birth certificate

-marriage certificate

-phone bills/emails/transcripts of chat

anything else i might have missed, please let me know. thanks.

My recommendations(response) are in CAPS below your points in the body
of your posting.....

BE CAREFUL. YOU MAY NEED AN 1-864 FOR MUMBAI SINCE SHE IS ON A K3. FOR
K1 AND I-134 WAS SUFFICIENT. DOUBLE CHECK THAT ONE.
    >
    > -bank letter (where can i get details about this? is it just a
    > statement that shows i have $x in a bank?)

YOUR BANK WILL GIVE A LETTER WITH CURRENT AMOUNT ON DEPOSIT AND
AVERAGE AMOUNT ON DEPOSIT IN THE PAST SIX MONTHS. ASK FOR IT. SEND THE
ORIGINAL TO YOUR WIFE FOR HER INTERVIEW.

    >
    > -job letter - are there specifics about this? like signature by
    > manager, some payment stubs....what exactly do i need to show i have a
    > job?)

YES.. A SIMPLE LETTER STATING YOUR TITLE, THE TIME YOU'VE BEEN AT THAT
COMPANY OR AT THAT JOB, ANNUAL SALARY. PLUS W-2 COPIES FOR THE PAST
THREE YEARS.
    >
    > -3 yrs. tax return papers (1040 for sure, maybe w2?)
YOU NEED IRS CERTIFIED TAX RETURNS (NOT JUST YOUR OWN XEROX COPIES).
HOWEVER THESE TAKE TIME. SO IN ADDITION, GET YOUR TAX TRANSCRIPTS FROM
THE IRS. THOSE ARRIVE WITHIN 1-2 WEEKS.

THE IRS CERTIFIED TAX RETURNS LOOK IMPRESSIVE WITH A GOLD SEAL ON THE
COVER PAGE.

I REPEAT, YOUR OWN XEROX COPIES SENT TO YOUR SPOUSE ARE NOT ADEQUATE.

    >
    > -police clearance

SHE NEEDS A LOCAL POLICE STATION CLEARANCE AND AN ADDITIONAL PASSPORT
OFFICE POLICE CLEARANCE. NOTE THE AGE OF 16 RULE WITH REGARDS TO LOCAL
CERTIFICATES.

    >
    > -medical exam

CORRECT. USUALLY DONE AT BREACH CANDY HOSPITAL A WEEK OR SO PRIOR TO
INTERVIEW DATE. MY FRIEND'S FIANCEE FORGOT TO CARRY THESE DOCUMENTS
AND MUMBAI CONSULATE THREW HER OUT AND ASKED HER TO RETURN THE NEXT
DAY.

    >
    > -wedding album

OH YES. THE MORE PICTURES THE BETTER.. AND IN A NICE GLITZY ALBUM..
THEY ARE CRAZY ABOUT ALBUMS AT THAT CONSULATE TO VALIDATE THE MARRIAGE
RELATIONSHIP.

HOW ABOUT A WEDDING VIDEO ? IF YOU HAVE ONE TAKE IT IN- THEY OBVIOUSLY
WON'T VIEW IT BUT WILL LIKE THE IDEA THAT YOU HAVE ONE.. :-)
    >
    > -mine and her passport
    >
NOPE.. SHE DOES NOT NEED YOUR PASSSPORT.

    > -mine and her birth certificate

ONLY HERS.. BUT IT DOESN'T HURT FOR HER TO CARRY YOURS INSIDE.
    >
    > -marriage certificate

DUH ! OBVIOUSLY. AGAIN HERE YOU NEED TO WATCH FOR TRICKY INDIAN
REGULATIONS REGARDING 'REGISTERED MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES' ETC. HONESTLY
I DON'T KNOW WHAT EXACTLY THEY ARE CALLED BUT IF YOU SLIP UP ON THIS
ONE YOU'LL ONLY DELAY THE VISA. I BELIEVE THAT CERTIFICATE IS
AVAILABLE FROM THE SUBURBAN OFFICE OF THE MUMBAI MUNICIPALITY IN SANTA
CRUZ OR SOMEWHERE.

    > -phone bills/emails/transcripts of chat

ABSOLUTELY ! A THICK PILE PROPERLY FILED IN A BINDER WILL IMPRESS
THEM. READ 'ALPONA's' POSTING ON HER INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE.

HOW ABOUT LETTERS OR CARDS ?? SHE SHOULD CARRY THEM ALONG WITH THE
POSTMARKED ENVELOPE TO SHOW THAT THEY WERE ACTUALLY MAILED TO EACH
OTHER.
    >
    >
    > anything else i might have missed, please let me know. thanks.
    >
YEAH - IF YOU WANT A VIRTUAL GUARANTEE OF AN APPROVAL BE THERE IN
PERSON STANDING OUTSIDE THE CONSULATE. (READ MY POSTING FROM MARCH
'03). THAT IMPRESSES THE HELL OUT OF THE CONSULATE THAT YOU'VE TAKEN
THE TROUBLE TO FLY BACK JUST TO SUPPORT HER - THAT IT IS INDEED A
'REAL' MARRIAGE'..

ONE MORE THING - GET COPIES OF PARENTAL CONSENT LETTERS FROM YOUR
PARENTS AND HERS.. SOUNDS ASININE BUT THE CONSULAR FOLKS ASK FOR THAT
SOMETIMES.
GOOD LUCK !
