It may be interesting to compare the UK fiance visa. This used to be a SINGLE entry visa, just like the US K1. When my now husband got his in1998, and ended up going back to the US before we got married, he had to apply for (and pay £250 again for!) a second fiance visa (though it only takes a week to get). However the UK fiance visa is now MULTIPLE entry, so someone at the Home Office obviously realised this might be a good idea. Maybe one day the US immigration authorities will decide the same for K1!
