Default K-1 Visa Issued in Montreal!

Hello,

First, let me thank everyone who helped me along the way to get where I am... I feel that I wouldn't have successfully received this visa today if I didn't find this newsgroup.

Here's a brief breakdown of what happened today at the US Consulate in Montreal.
The total time from starting the wait at the doors to leaving with my visa was 3.5 hours.

8:45AM standing in line

9:00AM got to the security checkpoint

9:03AM got my number

9:45AM called to the Window to provide all my origninal documents and one photocopy of the birth certificate. Also had the honour (honor) of parting with my first US$100 bill for the MRV (Machine Readable Visa) fee. This stage lasted 10 minutes.

11:15AM called to the Interview Room. Swore to tell the truth, asked what my fiancee's name was, what she did, where we will be living, checked on the DS-230 US Address that was provided. Approved visa. Advised to go back to the waiting room for 45 minutes to an hour for the visa. This stage lasted 10 minutes.

12:15PM Picked up my passport and the "mysterious brown envelope" with all my originals inside. Told to take this to POE when entering... Ta da!

Timeline: The following timeline is not one of "urgency" to get the visa. After we started the process, everything was moving so smoothly that I wanted to slow things down (ie: Interview date) in order to stay in Canada for a bit longer.

Hi Krikkrak,

well the foyer of the building is quite small with a few steps leading up to the security checkpoint... I hope it's not -30C when you go there like it was yesterday... but there's two lines... make sure you line up on the left hand side. There are two different types of letters Montreal issues... for K1 it was on the left. There were about 6 other people ahead of me... so if you want to go earlier...by all means... but not too early in case they don't let you into the first set of doors.

Well the only document you really needed to have photocopied was the birth certificate as they will give the original back to you but use the original to make sure the copy they have is the same. Give them the original of everything else in the checklist... and for the I-134, what you have is fine... make sure the I-134 is notarized... you may want to keep a photocopy of EVERYTHING for your own records as I understand we will be using these papers over and over for the AOS procedure.

Don't forget your US$100 and a recent dated letter from your fiancee stating she is still able and willing to marry you.

Other than that... you're cruising... seems like you have everything in order... police certs from all places you've lived for more than 6 months since attaining age 16... that will slow people down.

Best of Luck...

Ian
